Smithy's is another brand J.

But it would be easier to get a 2 or 2.5 inch pipe with a good turbo/sports muffler which will achieve what you want. Hot dogs will just get the EPA/Police on your case everytime you go out. Which is not fun.....

I had a dunnydoor VB 308 with a 4 inch system right through
It was loud!! but sounded good
everytime i saw a cop I just had to back it off and roll past
I never got done for it and I did get RBT d in it They got me for no P plate on the back

go the hot dog! and call it a hotdog!
If you get sick of the noise when cruisin along knock it out of gear and give it a few squirts remind yourself why you went with the hot dog 8)

a proper sports exhaust on a gray will sound pretty good 2" no bigger

you can't beat with a stick the sound of a red motor with extractors 2" pipe NO BIGGER with an 11" lukey straight through muffler 8) 8) 8) sweeeet and for some reason better with a manual than auto

I'll echo most of the above sentiments..
A proper sports exhaust of the correct diameter, etc will sound far better than splicing in a Hot dog, etc. As the exhaust resonates and if not properly fitted / matched the noise will start to give you the Sh#ts after a while..

I fit glass fiber packed exhausts to my old TRX 850 (Motorbike) sounded like the world was ending when i slammed open the throttle and used to fart flames out of both pipes on up and down shift.. Was awesome for about 10mins, then i had to wear earplugs as the resonation was too much..
Loud / awesome = Deafness / annoying as hell. :D :D

If you want noise, unbolt the exhaust completely and fire it out of the head..
Better yet, make some zoomies and have them sticking out of the bonnet.
That'll be a custom touch no-one runs. But expect to be defected by first police officer or RTA officer you cross paths with though.. :D

The only reason for time is so everything dosen't happen at once.
If Macca's home delivered there'd be one less drunk on the road.

I disagree - I have not been pulled over once or hassled once in my FB by the PoPo whilst on my P plates. Its loud, its low and it has fat wheels. It has shaved handles and is bright yellow, but they don't seem to see me. Am I a ghost, or does my car just look too cool to defect 8)

Hot dogs are great with mustard sauce and thats about it.

They put out a raw sound that probably sounds OK for the first half hour driving but any longer than that and the sound gives you the shits.

Only relief is if you have a loud sound system to drown out the noise.

I remember the old Lukey Sports Mufflers that Tim mentioned but don't know if they still make them??

They were good. 8)
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

One trick I used to do was to run no tailpipe. the exhaust dumps straight out of the mufflers.

It sounded wicked (and loud), but it mainly worked well with V8's.

We used to call it a Marrickville exhaust, coz every man and his dog that lived in this Sydney suburb who had a fake XY GT (trust me, there were hundreds of them) had this type of exhaust

It might sound all wrong if you try it with a grey though 8)

Few mates did this, dump in front of the diff. The rumble of an eight was felt and heard! But best of all was setting off car alarms whilst cruising around

It's strange that I never got annoyed with the noise/sounds from the V8's that I have owned, twin systems etc. 8) 8) 8)

They could be loud, but never seemed to annoy like the hotdog did.

J, in 20 years when your my age you'll probably sit back and think "what was I thinking putting all that shit onto my car. I should've listened to those damn restorers" 8)
ha ha how funny, i remember people telling me that when i was 15 and putting my first car together.
here i am 19 years down the track with every panel modified on the car i drove as a stocker with a grey at the end of my teen years, now trying to figure out the best way to fit this eaton m90 supercharger.
My kids are always saying when they get a car they want to do this to it and that to it, for my kids sake i just hope modified car laws dont get to much tougher.
as for the glasspacks, i think we started calling them hotdogs in the 70's prior to that it was a lukey sports muffler and or a copper tail pipe or if you were on a tight budget you drilled holes.
