At last ! Complete success. :D
Thanks to all who helped with parts, advice and interest.
After all the speculation, the final verdict WAS indeed a bent RHS hinge bracket. Not the LHS hinge, not a twisted boot lid and not a warped boot opening from a rear-ender... thank gawd!
As you can see both hinges sit evenly on their stoppers..

After fitting and adjusting the RET boot spring pins the boot lid now holds itself up ! :shock:

Also, as a bonus the lid closes perfectly and has an equal gap all round. 8)

How hard are those RET boot spring thingys to install??

Cal,
theyre remarkably easy, as I was shown.
Pop the old spring off, drill out the original pin, fit the new pin.
Two tools required....5/16" allen key and 7/8" spanner, adjust the tension of the spring.
