Judging by the views, there has got to be a few people that are watching this thread to see where it goes. To those, thanks for your interest but how about some more opinions?

can you explain in simpler terms for us youngins?

you trying to say that you cant upgrade a front end so its safer, or upgrade the motor to something more reliable? Maybe even upgrade the brakes?[/quote]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your input J. Were not saying you cant upgrade (at this stage) what we are saying is the limitations on what you can do are becoming less and less and in the near future we will have no choices.

At this stage for you J, 5 years is an eternity. But believe us old bastards, before you know it time has come and gone and you still haven't got around to finishing what you started.

What is this old fart dribbling about? Well here is an example, some time back i fitted a four link, coil over rear with a 56inch track to my FJ ute. That was fine then, but the car is still far from completion. So what was O.K then isnt now and i now have a car i cant rego.

See where this is leading?

I am trying to register with www.modifiedcarforums.com , i believe something similar to what we are trying to get happening here is taking place on their forum, but have yet to gain access.

If this is the case, then we definately need magazine editors to take up some loose ends and assist in bringing all of us together as one.

Paul, have you had any luck with Trevor Pickett yet?

Brootal, same thought has crossed my mind re: building a rod. '37 sloper would be nice, but who is going to look after our future if we push our aussie metal and heritage to one side, because its all too hard!

Come on blokes, stop scratching your sphinkters and have a say or make a suggestion.

Leigh.

thanks, that clears it up a bit 8)
what happened with ur fj sounds like bs!

modifications to improve suspension brakes etc should be legal - as its safer then rollin around with drum brakes and a kingpin front end and all the original crap.

and welcome to boris too :)
now i cant slack off with my spelling on this forum either :(

You mean everyone doesn't know me already? ;)

Will do an intro, but thought this subject was too important to ignore, so I replied.

Don't worry, that was tongue in cheek. :)

I agree, the Aussie stuff is just as cool as any of the other stuff out there, and without trying to belittle the Aussie stuff, it's also a good entree to US stuff and/or hot rods.

Trying to convince some pencil-pushing bureaucrat that you NEED to drive an old modified car (and trust me, it is a NEED) is a long and arduous task, especially when they have no knowledge or interest in the subject matter.

have spoken with trevor from perth street car magazine sugesting that we get input in forming a street machine federation much like the asrf and as we have said it will be a long process but am working on it

There used to be an Australian Street Machine Federation (if memory serves me correctly) but I don't think they could ever get organised enough to form a true national body.

How that's done exactly, I wouldn't have a clue. I guess the obvious start would be to see what the ASRF has done.

I am a life member of the A.S.M.F. they spent more time arguing with each other and feathering their own nests than actually getting off their arses and doing some good for the sport.

Youre right Boris, even our V.S.M.A. over here pretty much went the same way. Sadly falling short ove coming under the ASRF and distancing themselves from the ricer crowd. Kind of leaves you in no mans land huh...

Yeah, it's the same old story. You can't keep all of the people happy all of the time.

The dumb thing is, whether you're a hot rodder, street machiner or 'ricer', you're basically the same animal, i.e. you like cars and you want to modify them and change them to suit your own tastes. It's just the subject matter that changes.

When you think about it, each camp is doing the exact same things to their cars. Trying to make them go faster, handle better, look different, in fact, even the methods haven't changed that much.

Everyone makes fun of the ricers and their stickers, but hot rodders were doing that years ago! ;)

What should rally happen is that everyone should be under the same umbrella and should all get along. After all, that young punk ricer might grow up to be a hot rodder one day.

Don't ask me to be on the committee though!
