Work has begun!
After the initial fix-up to get the RAT driveable, I haven't done any work to it as I've been having fun cruising it when I get the chance.
Now that it's winter and the rego conveniently ran out recently I decided it was time to start stripping the RAT down.
Only one pic at the moment, sorry! - this is after one morning's work, struggling with 46-year-rusted nuts and bolts.

The plan is to strip the front end down, remove the engine and replace the Y-frames if I find some good ones (fingers crossed! anyone got any they don't need?) or extensively repair the old ones if none are forthcoming, and install a disc brake HR front end that I have lined up from Timbo (stock).

More pics to follow soon.

More dismantling...
The RAT as it sits at the moment and after a couple of laps of the block this morning - to the amazement  of a few oldies out for a chat!

Is this a common place for them to rust? The driver's side is pristine and the passenger side has a bit of rust but nothing major

Now for my swiss cheese subframe..

As you can see in the last photo, the firewall looks pretty good so far so I'm hoping the floors will be nice and sound.

Big thanks to Peter (forum member AL) for my new rust free Y-frames! :D :D

Will post a video soon of the RAT on it's last run round the block.
Now that I've got that out of my system, it's more dismantling as I strip it down to replace the Y-frames and weld in a new crossmember that the Y-frames bolt to under the car. I hope to clean (sandblast?) and paint up the front end and I've decided I'm going to stick with the front end that's in there for originality's sake.
I'm hoping to have it back together ready for cruizing by November so I can get out to a few runs and show n shines - not to enter just to look - over summer.

Seems like your getting there, I can see why you were so desperate for the Y frames. Will it be back on the road for the Cruise season?
