i think alot of people would be surprised if they really torr there car apart how bad it really is

RATBOX yeah i think a lot of ppl would be suprised at whats hidding behind filler and glass filler but at least in will know what mine has had done ...

that's right you don't really know what yor car is like untill you do what you are doing
over the years i've had cars that look like original paint but once you start stripping paint off there's 2 or 3 paint jobs under it with filler to match,
so unless you've stripped the car or know it from new you don't really know what you've got

Too true! I didn't think mine was as bad as it was either.....

like i said in my sandblasting post when you strip a car to steel theres a hole lot of history under the paint its like going back in time ,,i was lucky mine were just dent repairs and no bad rust it was a inland one owner from dubbo which i guess is the reason for the minimal rust

hi all have done some more on her , fabricated a inside wheel arch (dog leg) .. not the prettist sight but will so the job, and repair the what ever its called

ok guys my kids are on holidays now and they want to be taken to beach sailing and water sking so not a lot has progressed



i have a question how much is enough when stripping panels back ..
this is 1/4 after stripper and sanding etc .. was it stripped enough before i etch coated it ?

dont have a before shot but here is the piece i fabricated ..

and the parts welded in .. a little more work to be done on it yet ..

Ok not a lot done that i can show .. lots of little items
i need a break from body work so rebuilt the diff and sprayed her in black gloss (kill rust)



I couldnt help my self and gave the boot area a spray as well .. shouldnt have cos i still need to replace rear window sections .. but oooh well




Welded up the holes in fuel tank and painted it as well .. will get one of those stainless ones when the budget allows .. just to may other things so spend $$ atm and she will do 4 now

was going to by rares but since they where missing ends decided to use the donor sills ..
so lots of work to seperate them, gave em a rust treatment and may spray them in kill rust primer before total fitting

Hi Dave,
I am enjoying the posts of your work - and am sure others must be equally chuffed.
I am amazed at the quality of your metal work (not to mention the result with Killrust enamel.............)
I sprayed my diff housing, fuel tank and spare wheel housing (and a few other local areas not intentionally) with the same paint - it does work great, but like other enamels - just have to stop yourself going for that "little" bit more body gloss........... been the victim of a few block backs.

I have just finished removing the factory deadener mat from the boot - I have always looked after this area and was quite shocked to find what lay underneath - especially at the base of the rise - it must be a collection point.
Fortunately it was only superficial - spent a month getting it back to shiny steel, RS-1, fishoilene, primer and three (so far) coats of hammered metal epoxy.
I drilled three (3) 4 mm holes into the "low" spots should anything else find its way in. It is the experience of many of us, that if you have a good coat of wax over your boot and open it quickly when it rains - the water gushes down, onto the back window then ebbs back into the boot - I think this is probably from where much of the rust damage emanates.

Just another point (and I know this is your post - sorry) I intend to use a rubber cargo mat - can't think of the correct name, from Clark - I nearly broke my arm when I went in to do the underside of the rear window reveal - the hammered metal epoxy is so slick, if I'd taken my shoes off I'd be posting this using my laptop from a bed.
I used it on all the cabin floor/rear seat etc and it is magic.
In the boot, will fit it (non-adhered) and re-fit the boot mat over it.
On the floor of the inside, I fitted two layers of it, with an absorbing material between them (to stop any grit/sand etc filtering through the carpet). It gives a nice "soft" feel to the carpet, just a little.
I don't know if it absorbs any road noise - but the result is probably as good as the deadener I removed used to be.

From what I have seen of your body work, it has been the biggest contrast to from ...... to......... I have seen yet - I am amazed, Dave - tell me, do you work professionally in the field?

If not, then I am even more so.......

You are galloping on the back straight at present - at this rate (four and a bit months) I now think the "creature comforts" vehicle is going to be left at home..........
