an older guy i knew with plenty of money and some very fast cars had a godzilla skyline it was making 900hp at the wheels he hated the sound from the blow off valve so decided he would remove it and then proceeded to blow his very expensive intercooler to piecesHarv wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 2:32 pmEarly 90's cars with a BOV I can handle. Slam the throttle shut, the BOV lifts and the turbo compressor has somewhere to flow air to. The sututututu noise makes my soul hurt. That's the noise of a throttle slamming shut, no BOV, the compressor having nowhere to go, and going into surge. I spend a lot of time around heavy turbomachinery, where surge is enough to destroy a machine.Blacky wrote: Tue Feb 03, 2026 10:24 pm If I ever get this finished and if it makes a noise like that I will set fire to it myself .......![]()
Modern aftermarket turbo compressor wheels are designed for surge, but still puts my teeth on edge. Number One Son knows this, and takes great joy in sending me videos of his sister's stock i30 with the BOV temporarily disconnected. No idea where he learned to shit-stir like that![]()
Cheers,

There’s a bit of discussion about that - leaning towards the GBC 22/350 at the moment- see options below, if any of you guys know about turbos your opinions would be appreciatedEK283 wrote:Good work,

Initially was going to go with a new 32/36 Weber - you can buy them set up as a blow through from a mob who specialises in turbo packages for Geminis but now going with a VN V6 throttle body and 3 injectors mounted on the inlet manifold adjacent to the head - there are little bosses cast into the manifold they will be removed and replaced with the injector bungsErrol62 wrote:And a Weber carb, or twin throttle injection? Figured we would just tee a feed off the sender port - going to weld a return line into the sumpFireKraka wrote:Have you thought of oil supply to the turbo mate.
I suspect they can both handle 40-50psi oil pressure without much drama. The Garrett unit has journals, and may be more susceptible to rundown heat soak than the Pulsar's ball bearings (you know you are in trouble when you have white metal flowing out the oil drain portFireKraka wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 1:30 pm What is he pressure rated for the turbo mate you may have to reduce, our big ones are not feed full engine pressure.
Also have you thought about oil flow when you turn off and the turbo is running down?
