While we had a car on the hoist with no gearbox in it I figured it was a good time to check how big a hole needs to be cut to fit this box - measured the engine angle before starting so we know where we are at -

Then finished mounting up the adapter plate to the bellhousing- I had bought a set of centering punches years ago and finally had the chance to use one Image

Just need to drill the engine mount holes now and it’s done Image
Offered it up and the official amount of floor surgery has been confirmed as “lots” so Mick has decided not to proceed- it would be a good swap for a hydro body though Image

It’s funny but I wouldn’t hesitate chopping !
There are so many other car tunnels you can use from the wreckers apart from rolling your own.
I suppose different people different priorities.
The gearbox would be an excellent swap in my opinion.

It would be ideal I agree. Leave the 3.89 in and convert the clutch to cable. Grey power is about what those boxes are good for. No doubt you’ll find a home for it blacky.

We KNEW it wasn't going t be a bolt in Clay, Mick was keen at the start but when I pointed out what was involved standing under the wagon he decided against it.

Was an interesting little side project anyway, rarely get the chance to fire the mill up.........

Who knows mate, it might end up in the ute one day ..... I have resisted cutting it up for 16 years now but never say never

Oh, it’s a different one to the one I was thinking. I put a brand new one behind a 202 in my HX van back in about ‘83. Was the one that went in VH Commodore behind 173 and was cable. Cracked the extension housing on it bush bashing when I was using it as a survey vehicle, but got it welded up. My agricultural cable conversion failed in the middle of peak hour at the busiest intersection in the city, when I was moving Elle, her dad, and our entire household, in a U haul trailer down from Leigh Creek, about 2km short of our destination. No doubt I’ve told you this story. My half mad step brother was dispatched in his HG GTS Monaro to tow us home.
