I am of the 'leave well enough alone" school, and so would advise against removing and replacing the commutator end bush. The internal bore of the housing will also end up being chromed, reducing its diameter, which will then give problems either pressing the bush back in, or make the bush an interference fit on the armature shaft. Or both.

And the field coils are definitely not to be disturbed. In the eventual situation where you did remove the field coils and pole pieces to chrome the yoke, there will now be a layer of chrome in the magnetic circuit which can only have a bad effect: higher reluctance, lower magnetic field, thus lower torque.

Don't forget Harv that anything you chrome will add weight. A nice coat of paint might suffice.

Get yourself some of that mirrored stainless sheet I used on my grill and wrap that around it.
