R-1850-2 is a 600cfm 4-barrel... that's a lot of carb for a red motor, more suited to a high-zoot V8.

Had hoped it was the elusive 390 Holley, which it better suited (much smaller venturis).

Cheers,
Harv

ooohhh... thanks Harv the fella i got it off told me it was a 450- I didnt even check. May be a bit over the top eh?? It does, however, appear you are a much better welder than I am- and your advice on stud removal is duly noted :D
Thanks Rob, I am having trouble getting the #2 and #3 front studs/ dowels out (dunno the difference between the 2?). they are course thread into the head and fine for the nut but the mid-section isn't threaded so I cant run nuts all the way down :(. And you are correct the balancer hasnt been knocked home as i will be stripping the motor down again before run time so dummying it all up just to see if Ive got all the bits and it all fits in the hole. As you can see by the pic this is the solution ive come up- but I am missing 2 of the square washers and the aft one has to be a bolt as I've run out of other hardware...

I've always had bolts at the end with extractors. Dowels with cast manifolds.

May pay to try and run 3/8"UNF die up the studs, even if you end up using the welder.
I could only get replacement studs with both end UNC. Exhaust flange studs are an alternative I've heard of but know zip about. May have to trim them.

ARP make stud kits for exhaust manifolds but they are pretty spendy - a good investment on a boosted motor but for NA stuff bolts should suffice.

At least get the 3/8 unf ARP nuts that use a 7/16 spanner they make the job a hell of a lot more enjoyable

Thanks guys great advice, think one of those kits might be the go… now for the next piece in the puzzle- it’s in, but the geometry of the RH mount doesn't quite look right to me- had to mess around a bit to make it fit and get clearance at the back (still only about half an inch). Gearbox mount seems ok, LH mount looks mint. There is SFA clearance with the oil pump on RHS… does this look right to you guys?are the two rubberised mounts sided? Thanks all, enjoy fins everyone!

Cheers melly

Half an inch clearance st the back of the head is almost too much you may find when the radiator goes in.

Those ears on the mounts are only necessary on the passenger side and even then can cause issues with extractors.

The block to mount brackets are sided according to larger bolt holes for two bolts on te passenger side also.

There are several different sizes of mounts as well mate, that tripped me up on the red rattler, used a dummy block to have the pipes made then went to fit the new motor using different mounts and nothing lined up……
