I've been a bit slack with updates however, I hit a bit of a milestone this past weekend with the car passing its second IHRA tech inspection.

In summary I had the car pretty much to turn key stage minus the bottom end work and a set of headers. Monty (IHRA Inspector) was really happy with the car and gave me the go ahead to blow it apart and paint it. The painters at work are slow at the moment and Keen to paint things other than ozcam so over the last couple of days they have been flicking some jam around on it for me.

I reckon even Auscam would look better than that &*#@ logo on the radiator . That thing has a serious cage in it.

Yes the cage was a massive headache. It was running a 4 point cage (like all the others) but after the little girl got killed in Perth in the junior dragster all he rules changed surrounding rollcage specs and I had to cut all the rear of the cage out to make it 6pt if i was any chance to get it past IHRA tech. Serves me right for taking so long with the build as the rules were not retrospective (all in the name of safety go figure).

Anyway, its done now. The IHRA are happy with it and I've literally just taken it out of bake so now the fun of putting it all back together while getting the bottom end sorted.

All done. Assembly time.

What's your reasoning Harv? I've seen lots of opinions about which way is best with mention to air pressure and other technical reasoning but no actual hard and fast data so interested in your thoughts given the work you've done with your guides.

Once I get the thing fired up, bugs sorted and a decent reliable baseline it was something I was going to play around with.

I've never tested one (say with a manometer), but I suspect that the scoops behave like most objects. As the air flows around them, it will build up a little bit of pressure on the leading edge. The "little bit of pressure" is good for increasing air flow through the carb. You won't get a massive increase (and number one carb will get more air than number two or number three because they shadow each other), but it all helps.

As the air continues to flow around the scoops, it splits into two, then joins back together behind the scoop. At the trailing edge of the scoop, there will be a slight vacuum. The vacuum again isn't huge, but it will lower airflow into the carb. In this case, number three will be most affected.

So I reckon turn the scoops so they suck from the higher pressure leading edge, instead of the lower pressure trailing edge.

If the carbs were under a closed bonnet, the effect would be negligible. Hanging out in the breeze on the Hambster though they should get decent airflow.
