Stripped, cleaned and rebuilt on of my three distributors I had, I chose VJU 6 BR 41 (EK) purely on its mechanical condition although pretty grubby
it scrubbed up ok . After some research and forum testimonials I decided to purchase and fit the Pertronix 1864a electronic kit, easy enough to install
knowing that the vacuum control pull rod bracket requires some grinding in order to fully seat the magnet ring. I then reset the length of the vac control rod after I fiddled with it (as you do when you take stuff apart). When all was done and I was satisfied I went to the bible again and got info on how to install the distributor ready for fine tuning when I start her up ( relative distributor orientation to engine, rotor position, #1 piston position, timing mark position and distributor adjusting plate position).

Well the old 132 is coming along nicely, I fitted the gearbox with R66n clutch as a kit and replaced the bronze locating bush as well. I had a spare spline lying around to aid with the plate alignment when bolting to the flywheel ( I forgot to take pictures....and I wasn' t going to take it apart !)

I put my twin strommies manifold and extrators on with no problems ( the manifold brackets / clamps needed shaving off the ends and sides to fit). I have a WEY rocker cover in pretty good nick but I decided to go with the original ....in my opinion it gives it more class. As for the colour of the engine, well, it's grey /gray enough for me. The starter motor has been stripped cleaned tested and installed, the alternator / regulator has been tested, stripped, cleaned and will be assembled with a new regulator unit (bosch EE 14V3 9190067005), need to sort out the bracket / spacer arrangement for the alternator as well.

Still waiting on my control arm bush's then the front member is good to re assemble and install....then the engine....then the......then the ...then the...it just keeps going :roll:

Decide to paint the underneath of the old girl (while I'm still waiting for my lower control arm bushes :thumbsdown: ) I put the front end on anyway pretty straight forward with no dramas, will post photos of this!

Anyway, painting was a pain crawling around underneath even though the car front end was on stands ( ex army truck stands). On closer inspection, underneath was in very good condition with only minor and very little surface rust some cobwebs and a bit of surface dirt. I used a general purpose bitumen paint ( had this prior to learning about POR). Took pretty much the whole day to do, wish I had a car rotisserie!

Looks great mate , I use el cheap paving paint from Bunnings under my cars, I was under the ute last week changing the diff centre out and it still looks as good as the day I painted it under there !

I sorted out what switch assembly belongs to what by referring to the wiring diagram (top belongs to Ute / Panel Van )

Regarding the gear lever knob, I've seen the bottom one in pictures of FB's and EK's the one that came with my FB is the top one. Any clarification what it is out of?

BTW...whilst making comparisons, a NASCO EK Knob on Evil Bay $199 " Tell him he's dream'n!"

Iv'e had a another scratch around on the internet and I'm thinking FE / FC. Thogh not shown in my pic, the one I have has an aluminium disc on the end of it. Any definite answers.....gurus?

Well i stripped the steering box / column and pedal box. Strip, clean, de rust, prime n paint. Need to get the firewall grommet and gear linkage bushes.....oh and put the bloody clutch pedal return spring back on (should of left it on I reckon). I stripped and clean the horn assembly as well ( horn spring / contact was busted but sorted it out )

Question.....does it matter what order for assembly.....steering column then pedal box or vice versa?

The control arms are finally installed, well, the inner upper and lower side of the assembly anyway! :roll:

Ended up using my other set of arms, but they were in a mess, years of built of grease and dirt.....and surface rust. So a soak in petrol (old boat fuel), soak in acid and a quick prime and they went on without too much drama, in fact too easy I thought something was wrong so I checked and doubled checked...Happy Days :wink:

I have the rest of the whole cross member assembly lying in wait (Hub and Brake Assy, Springs/Shocks, Stabiliser. Bar, Steering linkage Assy and Steering column Assy. Photos to follow

Well, been a bit slack with the progress pics, sometimes I just forget. Anyway the whole front end is on less shocks,
which I'll install when the engine goes in to assist with the spring compression and removal. YES! the engine is going in! :D . Had to get the FX FJ front mount seeing that the the gray is a 132 with the relevant timing cover to outrigger mating. After it's in I'll see how she sits with the current springs, compared to the rear 1.5" blocks.

Will take pics of this process and post....stay tuned groovers :D
