Mate,

You can't go wrong with the products from Rods Racks as thats where I got my front end modified. When I got it back it all just bolted straight in without any further modification. It was great.

why not if yor happy with the breaks you have (but prolly not legal) just weld engine mounts to the front in yor car to fit the red, if yor thinking of future mods with a V8 later you'll have to do engine mounts again,
or do the V8 straight off the bat if you use holden V8 it's not alot more work than fitting the red six, and as far as NSW engineers go you don't have to do anything more than adual circut breaks and collapasable collum over a 186

I'm in the middle of doing the same to my EK - using the 179 from my old EH. It's at the engine builders as we speak getting a total overhaul. While it's in the shop, I'm doing the same to the trans (Celica), HR front end, and diff.
I considered an 8, but you know, I really like the look and sound of a nicely built straight 6 in old Holdens, so decided to stick with that.

Really keen to see photos as you go, so I can pick up as much info as I can to help in my own transplant.

I think i will be following your progress closely too.
I dont plan to start until the new year, so i have time to research and gather ideas, plus i need to secure all the components i need, etc.

Ratbox,
I had a mate who did a not so legal engine conversion to his car, it was stolen a couple of weeks later and insurance was denied due to the illegal convert. But you have a good idea to go V8 straight up if is as much fiddling around as for the red 6.

I will get a list of required mods for complience and weigh up my options then.

Hey Sunnymick, That grey motor won't pull your '59 chevy!! lol lol.
Strogger, Good to meet you in the flesh last nite. You have done an arwsome job getting your car up and running. Don't let Sunnymick pressure you into selling that motor. If Sunnymick is chasing a grey he can give me a call, I have two EJ grays that need a new home.

Well car has settled into daily duties nicely.

The kids love it becasue of the all around visability its gives them, Great for the christmas light drive we went on the other night.

Still a few bugs to iron out but had the transmission serviced at Band Automatic Transmission's in the Gabba, they did a fantastic job and made the Hydra shift smoother than i would have thought possiable.

Also finished my seat belts installation project, I still got to dress and colour spray where i cut into the pillar for front Inertia reel anchor points but it looks ok in primer grey and I still need to have a final inspection with engineer for mod plate but at least its safe to cart the boys in their car seats

Just realised it was December since i last posted on this thread...

Car is still same, except for a 3.36 diff center and i now have a "o and a "e" on the bonnet.

I am a fingernail away from a new job with a company ute... so EK will come off the road for an up date... The grey/hydra has been a great combo, i've been doing 160 miles a day round trip, 100 of which is the Logan toll way so fairly taxing on the poor bugger and havent had any drama, other than the odd missfire which was crap fuel and a fouled plug.

Still undecided on V8 / nostalgic grey.. But have an idea

2 cars...

just gotta convice the minster for war and finance..

do whatever it takes with the M.O.W - keep this one as is.............. it looks schmick......

Hack up an "also ran" - and make that into your play thing............... this one can't be replaced..............trust me - I wish I'd never "touched" mine.......

yeah hydros are speacial as they where a milestone in ausie atomotive advancement an auto is a fancy thing in 61 so id think thers only so many left and that they are best as they where for history,,,,,,so if you want more quick ican sell you my vr

I'm recoing a grey at the moment and I recon there wouldn't be much difference between a grey and a V8 in $ terms, Trev
