Yeah he was a cool guy. He was a real character also. Once I had a couple out from america who ran a merlin oowered hydro named Miss Thriftway.
I had told them about this merlin mechanic and they wanted to meet him.
We drove over to his place in hornsby and there he was in his shed in his pink satin underpants and singlet with a meteor tank engine in pieces.
After the initial shock he showed them how to modify a meteor crankcase to fit the merlin blower.
He made us all a cup of tea with stained mugs.
These were wll healed people who were blown away by him.
There are several merlin meteors running now in american vintage hydroplanes.
Another time he sailed a yacht across to the US. The yacht belonged to colourful sydney Identity.
Before he left he filled the yacht with beer and two strippers from the cross came to see them off.
He showed me pics of the topless strippers in the yacht with him his eyes pointed directly at their nipples with a cheeky grin on his face.

Great read thanks for taking the time to post all that Dave.

Those three hydroplanes look great in the water together.

Bootlegger,

My name is nathan grandson of bruce doust who owned the spitfire 1 and 2.

My father (trevor) sometimes raced with Bruce.

Do you have any information on the location of the hull of the spitfire or the engine?
Photos? it would be greatly appreciated.
