Loving the 390 HOLLEY!

Thanks Harv.....yeah the 350 came off a HZ ute.
Came home after work and my panel beater had bought it just because he needed a tail gate.......drove it up to my place and gave it to us to keep
Fully rebuilt/worked 186, high stall,tuff trimatic, welded diff, V8 radiator, Quiucksilver Shifter etc. all for free
That's where I stole the Yella Terra head/350/manifold etc. for the wagon.
Ute still has electronic ignition, winged sump X oil pump, electric fuel pump etc that I haven't swapped yet

had another good look at it last night.....would appear they have clearanced the notch in the carb body to drop the boosters further down the venturi bore.
They ARE large fill out to about 3/4 of the bore size.
Might explain why it was a pig off idle and rather erratic/rough when running.
Will try and post up a pic for you after the weekend.

*UPDATE* After a trip down south for the long weekend......still VERY impressed.
Before we left, swapped out the 585 metric jets for some stock 51's and ran a vacuum test to pick the right power valve.
17 inches at idle WOW. Wasn't really expecting that with the 4BBL/huge manifold/ PCV & Brake connections etc. on a tired old 186.
I was close with the 7.5 P.V but changed it out to an 8.5 as per standard HOLLEY calculations.

Certainly very crisp and pulls like a schoolboy from down low in the revs, but may have to muck around with the dizzy
as the advance rate is too slow once the vacuum drops under acceleration.
Might just drop the electronic jigger out of the HZ ute and see how close that wants to run.

Fuel economy has been amazing....8.5 - 9 litres per 100 kms mixed town/highway, and 9.8 towing the Caravan at 110kph.

Interesting... I havn't seen annular boosters on a 350CFM 2-barrel before. Must have been fun to fit. Assume the engine was another red 6? Strange idea for a burnout car as I understood that annulars were for bottom end, and reduced the top end if anything. Must have been a low rpm torque monster rather than a top-end scrreamer.

Yep, I'm thinking the idea was low end torque, to get the wheels spinning and keep them there through the gears.......
.......especially when using a big block 186 in a HZ Ute
Skid cars need heaps of torque.....not so much top end.
