Money don't intrest me so much, but a fair trade would... if you want to buy one they have one on flea bay for 300 cracker that don't look as nice.

Why?? My searches for info are proving fruitless.... google has nuffin!

Any idea how i tell if it's the genuine article?

Again even if it was shitloads im not out to make a quick buck.... i plan to learn from the pages here and get my K bird rolling ....if parting with one cover could help in that quest all the better.

Off to polish it up a bit.

Just early Aussie speed gear.

Kleinig units had the breather at the front,or in some cases, two breathers.

The twin breather units are probably the hardest to find.

Frank Kleinig is a bit of an uncelebrated motorsport legend.

Theres not much he hasnt competed in.

As was his father,Frank snr. http://www.therealmountpanorama.com/bat ... conrod.php

Thanks for the info and an intro to some history i never knew but will read more of now...

Just popped the oil filler cap off and yep there it was on the front

KLEINING
SYDNEY

Looks like it was engraved by hand, the spare cars one is the same and both have the funky looking oil filler cap which i assume went with it. The chrome has gone from the spares filler cap though.

My old K Bird used to go fairly hard for an old grey and I had often wondered if the motor might have been tweaked aswell.

Even more incentive to get this thing in a shed and locked up! Might even get that done today! Will remove the one from the spare car too to polish it up and store it

Thanks Stewart for the welcome! I'm learning lots here.

Will probably post lots of mundane updates as things progress... I was a newspaper editor (not that it showz lol) for four years and a photographer ...and i love to yak so there will be plenty of things!

Today i cleaned the rat nuggets off the rocker cover and cleaned it up a bit and swept out the engine bay.

Here are some snaps of both the covers i have....pulling the dirty one off the spare car soon to give it a real good shine up~

Looking at the offset cap lugs in the cover i guess these caps were meant for these covers.

Pumped up the flat rear tyres today and cleared some junk from around it so i can start to move it out of where its been sitting.

Looking to start the motor soon, it has black oil in it (to the full line) and im wondering what the best plan of attack is ....drain it all first and then fill it with diesel and leave it for a week and then drain again and add fresh oil?

I read in another post about filling it with diesel....when they say fill does it mean to the dipstick line or till it starts coming out the dipstick tube?

Was tempted to crank it as is for 1 minute to get it all moving.

Thoughts?

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and
oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital
ingredient in beer

It's hasn't been started for probably 7 years or more and it was only ran a few times in the past 20 years ..without an oil change  ...

It was me that said to fill it with deisel in response to how to un gunk a rooted old engine to avoid dismantling it.

I personally wouldnt do it if it was that far gone,Id dismantle it.

In your case,as the engine is complete and was a runner,I'd follow Tims advice.
