I'm hearing ya on the matt black thing Woody , flat black with red steelies and whitewalls has been done to death

Why not do a different colour and stil use a flat/satin finish ??? It doesn't hide all the imperfections but it does disguise them to a degree.

Always a pleasure :eugeek:

What ever you decide to do with the car, be it installing a 327 Chev and painting it 'strike me pink', or tracking down the last known surviving NASCO 'Lube-a-matic' new old stock Dipstick Extension Kit for $2000, I'm sure you'll have a ball just like the rest of us

HAhaha Sam.....I could'nt let this opportunity pass...................
I understand peoples hate of goaties and Satin Black cars, but some of us were and still are some of the founding members of these trends
Just because every metrosexual city wanker took on the goaty look,it was merely a fashion accessory.......us forefathers still proudly sport the long, scruffy, bushranger type of facial growth that will never be pruned and pinstripe shaved to yuppy perfection.
Image
As for Satin Black.........well it wasn't meant to be another fashion statement for the rest of the unimaginative, brain dead "Old Skool" flock to follow.
This was again something of a necessity for us original grease monkeys that had no intent other than a lack of skill to paint, and a strong desire to drive the cars for what they were built for......
going flat out 1/4 of a mile at a time, round and round in circles in a haze of tyre smoke or generally getting beaten upon while scaring the bejeezus out of small furry animals and old ladies.

And hey......it can still look half O.K. in the right light

Anyways, back on topic.

Yeah the satin/matte paint will just be a temp job to tidy it up abit. Will be a backyard spray job. Long term plans are full Respray in original colour scheme, retrimmed interior, and to just make it a nice clean cruiser - not a full on as close to orig restore, but not a full on custom either.

Does anybody have any colour suggestions/combos for the temp Respray...keeping in mind will be a close door job, so will have to sit alright next to that blue on the dash...

Yup, don't bother with it. Leave it how it is until you're ready for the full-on job. It will look like hell with the insides of the doors & dash being different colours.

If it really needs a temp tidy-up, I'd just do a quick patch & sand and paint it the same colour it is now. You might be surprised how well it presents afterwards.

Well, you did ask

Yeah that was one of my worries with dash colour. I'll have a play around - see what I can come up with.
Plan on driving it over to w.a, sometime toward end of this year, so will prob go all out on it then once I'm settled back in.

If any photoshop experts want to have a quick play - couple ideas I'm thinking...
Keep blue same, snow crest white roof (part of orig colour combo)
Same blue all over - sand body to a flat finish, sand/polish roof to a gloss.

Ekwags - cheers for the link, I'll have to sign up to check it out.
