Thanks to all those that have praised my old man. I told him of your responses and he was both surprised and extremely grateful for the advice/well wishes from those that gave it.

UTEK - I spoke to him about the floor and he confirmed that it lifts out in three sections. The first two use the hinges and the storgae is underneath whilst the last section is a pull-out (again with storage). I'm hoping to get to his place tomorrow and take a couple more photos.

Well it's been a while since I posted as not much has happened with 'Pa's Ute'. Bad news is he has decided to let her go as he just can't see himself finishing it. Good news is he has allowed me to purchase it off him!!! Bad news is my old man is ten times a mechanic than what I am and one of the reasons why he has decided to call it quits was he couldn't do some of the stuff that needs doing himself. Good news is I'm keen and willing to learn. Bad news is he recently found rust in the floor and chassis

For this I need to find someone in the local area (Canberra) that is both reliable and not over-priced. I don't care how long it takes as long as it is done properly.

I'd supply photos but haven't taken the keys to the ute yet. Will do so ASAP.

Any help would be much appreciated.

So it's the ute pictured at the start of this post yeah? If so I'm good score. Im sure you'll find someone to fix the rust at a reasonable price. PM EKKOOL (Mark) as I'm sure he can put you onto someone around Canberra who can do the work.

Well went and visited the old man yesterday to have a look at the recently found rust. What is frustrating is that the guy who painted it was meant to cut out all the rust and protect it for good. It seems he might have been a bit lazy ... evidenced by the following:









On a brighter note the old man did a bit of work on the girl since last post. I'm extremely grateful because it was stuff that would have been right over my head and would have cost me $$$ in the end. He shouldn't have as I reckon he's paying for it now





He got these airbrushed by the son of mate. They look sweet!!!



Finally he showed me these two benchseats. Apparently one was in the car (but was not original) when he acquired it and one was given to him.

I believe, and please correct me if I am wrong, the first one is from an FB and the second one is from an EK? Would anyone happen to know the trim code for either? MY intention is to use the EK trim and seats (as the springs are better) but use the FB button on the side (if that makes sense). This may seem like a dumb question but does anyone know if trim like this can be sourced from anywhere anymore? If not was thinking I might be able to get the door cards covered in it, just so the history is preserved in some way.

Whoops - forgot to mention that on the ID plate it says the original trim code was 531-1036 (Seal & Madison Grey).

Looking to the future I will be picking the girl up in a couple of weeks and hopefully giving the body straight to the doctor treat the cancer!!! Will post some pics of the move.

Coincidentally just read Dr Harv's post on Stromberg Carbys (Awesome read!!!) and found these that the old man has passed on:



So if I have been an attentive student I would be correct in saying that there is a set of dual SU Carbys, dual Strombergs (probably off a HR, HK, EH or HD - one marked BXV2 2376050 and the other BXUV-2 2376068) on a Thomas intake, one Elmira NY USA made BXOV-1 Stromberg and Australian BXOV-1 marked 385038 with a venturi of 1 1/32.

I'm not quite sure what the best glue to use is but i do know that the outer rubber gets glued to the edge of the scuff plate. Its hard to tell from the pic if you have a colour-matched scuff plate on there or if its not on yet at all. If its not there i'd be putting that one first then glueing your rubber on, all that being said i'm no seasoned veteran with this stuff- anyone second my opinion?

Yup, true story. Scuff plates on first, and then the rubbers are glued to the scuff plate (just mentioning it because I can see they haven't been fully fitted yet).

Too true Trev. Have got a couple of leads in terms of getting the rust cut out. Hopefully one of them will come to fruition.

Cheers EK Daz - I think the old man is quite relieved to look out his window and not see the EK (knowing that he couldn't finish it). He'll be the first passenger when it is finished ... might even let him drive it

Well not much visually has happened to "Pa's Ute'' since acquisition but it seems to have taken up a bulk of my time.

Have taken the bench seat apart and passed it (as well as the door cards and visors) onto an upholsterer. As the original upholstery was not in it I have decided to go with something not so original. Still conservative, just not like how it came out.

After removing the vinyl and taking the seat adjusters off I noticed how rusted they were (I had two bench seats and both sets were similar). Decided to purchase some molasses and see how dipping them would go. Decided only to dip the worse pair in to ensure I didn't ruin both if something went wrong. Here's the before and after shots. Not bad!









I have also decided to remove the windscreen and now have a contact that is prepared to install a new one at my home which is quite a relief as it really wasn't sitting well and I was concerned it wouldn't pass rego.

Seems to be the month for getting contacts as I also found a decent welder who is prepared to work on the girl as long as I do all the cleaning/labour. Happy to do so!! So panels that are available have been purchased:



and Greg (a fellow member) has offered to supply the last piece of the puzzle.

So it would seem that everything is moved forward however ... a small hiccup:



Never a good time for surgery but hoping it will only set me back a couple of weeks
