portawall whitewalls
I looked at white wall options from the time I started building my K, from painting to shoe whitener and even grinding the sidewall as what the rodders do in the States. I even thought about white silicone spread evenly across the sidewall and dressed up.
I have since spoke to the guy at Antiques about there portawalls and he mentioned the flappers do cut into the tyre and you do have to run tubes with a higher tyre pressure obviously to minimise the cutting, he also advised if you want whitewalls to last go for the real mcoy white wall tyre. So that was out of the ? for me since I bought new tyres for my ride.
I gave Johns Rod and Custom a call he was most helpfull, they carry the portawalls in 1 2 and 3 inch wide bands and he said that there flapper is in fact softer so it no longer cuts into the sidewall, no need for tubes and durability is about 2 years if you don't wack the gutters, when there dry you use silicon spray between the flapper and tyre to eliminate the noise, that speal was good enough for to purchase 2inch portawalls from JRC, I have'nt fitted them, I'll wait till after rego.
Regards John
PS, There is a fella from The Oaks or Camden way who does the white walling on car, he buffs the tyre to a depth of around a 1mm and uses latex for the white wall band, but the maximum width is 1 inch. In Red or White.

There VS Commodore rims, the size of the rim is 15inches by 6 inches wide.
They have a 120mm pcd so they will not fit your early holden unless you change you hubs and axles, get them redrilled. I have these rims cause I'm running the VL Commodore front suspension.
The portawalls from Johns Rod and Custom come in 13-14-15 and I even think he does em in 16's. The band widths are 1 - 2-and 3 inches.Check the pic of my boot, I have a stocker rim in there with a whitewall. Courtesy of Dulux.

I have the Johns Rod and Custom portawalls fitted, they look absolutely class, and easy to fit to.
Fitting tip, sand the outer edge of the portawall first and clean the dust off you don't need to crack the bead, just remove the valve and deflate the tyre fully and reinstall the valve, press the tyre close to the rim and slip the portas on. I'm not sure that this was made easier because my tyres are new or not , but I'm going to try fitting the same way on a set of older tyres, to see if it's just as easy.
I'll keep you posted.
