What else should I be looking for in a column to fit it up to a torana R&P?

depends what yor rego requirements are you may not even require collapsable depending on engine size, only thing that might be an issue with these collums but not a big drama is intermediate shafts as the torana has a quite small shaft out of the rack these collums have a large splined or "D"ed shaft

I know that I need a collapsible column, and if there is not an adaption coupling, they shouldn't be too hard to fab up.

AAP will be able to supply a coupling from the column to either a splined shaft or a double D shaft .

Alternatively Rods Racks (Rod Gordon Smith - 0419 760 987) does modified columns too and i'm sure they're nowhere near the price you've been quoted.

The guys name who does the collapsable fb column is George Windus you can call him on 0421053733 ...I have just ordered one thru him.... not cheap but its legal and engineered .....you need to give him a steering column from a hq or similar and the top of the fb column ....for your money you get a steering column modified to hook up to any size shaft on your steering rack the honey pot welded and machined and primer etched and uses the standard fb indicator mechanism and all the engineering paperwork to get reg approval ...and this is the greatest problem you can have if not engineered correctly ...if you havent spoken to an engineer before you do any modification you could waste a lot of money and time ...,my engineer wants collapsible column with V8 conversion he will accept non collapsible on red motor conversion this apparently is a requirement in Victoria by Vicroads

The AAP ones are not collapsable - if you fit one into a rod and use more than 2 unis then it doesnt need to be

in NSW that depends on engineer, some will accept this most won't

Ring Coates hotrods they sell a new stainless steel collasible collum for 650 ive got one for my rod they look awsome also good to buy local
