Stripped the old girl back today.
Bare metal on the rear guards and roof didnt sandblast as I was to scared to damage the good bits.

geez you got some work ahead of you i was lucky enough to have a rust free car apart from lhf guard which had only rusted because it was replaced in the late 60s when my grandmother damaged it but ive seen some work done on this site that amazes me so just persist with it im sure it will come up a treat, as for engine why not go an injected 308 that would be nice thats what i was originally going to use but i already had this engine

Between the rust and the rubbing tierod end it just shows what a joke the NSW pink slip inspection system is, lucky for all of us that the car is being redone properly . Just imagine for a minute if this vehicle was involved in a serious accident and the unroadworthy condition became known through a police accident review. It's hard enough to convince some people our modified cars are better/safer than stock without halfwits like the original builder of this car driving things like this around, it tarnishes all the good workmanship that we all strive to achieve.

Been working a bit at a time and have sanded the boot and the bonnet stripped the dash and started cutting out the front floor pans.

So its moving along nicley get about 8hrs a week work time but willl hammer it next week as I am getting the replacement subframe parts and front floor pans welded in then attack the rear.
After that the sills and pillars
Still have to detail sand and finish of blasting the chassis and the good parts of the subframe as well inside the engine bay.
anyone know how to get the old radios out?

Pull the volume and tuner knobs off and undo the nuts.. Might be a strap at the back also.

g'day baker any idear how long since the old girl was fitted with that v 8 just wondering how long it took from mod to rust as it was when you started the reno.

13years ago according to the engineers certificate, guy that did the mods lived in newport nsw so the car was exposed to the elements and the salt.
The subframe itself is ok under the middle of the flooring but around the sills is where the majority of the rust is.

Well Its been a while since I made any progress.
Moved the old girl from my mates shed as it was costing me more in beer than parts to leave it there.
I have since sent the motor away and It has been bored out to much for holden pistons and crank shaft so we are going up to chev parts that will fit, cylinder head getting polished and ported.
I had to keep the block because thats what its engineered for and I dont want to get dicked around by throwing a chev crate motor into it, I wnated to keep it all OZ.
Even if we have to give it a US organ transplant.

This crap came out ofthe front 1/4 of the sill the bit in the middle is an old socket some cheap shit couldnt be a sidchrome! thats probably why the cars full of rust! bloody cheap chinese crap socket infected the whole car!

Rear Sill cut
Will clean up this week and weld in sills, have to pick up subframe mebers from rares 2moro and will weld in once the sills are in place.
If you brace the car correctly you can attacjk whatever you wish to I measured after each cut and had zero movement.
Last thing to go in will be the florrpans I have a 4litre tin of POR15 and will be liberally applying it to Fu@#in everthing!
Any way merry xmas to you all will post more pics have 4 weeks of and going now where so plaenty will be done in those 672 hrs

Think you might have enough to keep you busy over the holidays , keep the pics coming , a couple of weeks on it and you will have it back together

Most fun I have had in years, I have got new sills and repair sections.
Its great that you can repair these old girls with repro parts, keeps em alive.
I have a castlemaine chassis underneath so most of the work I am doing is cosmetic probably why the last guy didnt care.
Anyway the worst thing is that I have a bruise the size of 2 fifty cent peices on my forearm where the wire wheel i was using to clean up the steel let go of a 15mm bit of wire brush and went 10mm into my arm. Nice to see blood pissing out of you like a fountain makes me feel like I am alive.
