Hey Wal your ute is looking great and that tank is pretty cool.
For such and good product I agree with you that it is a little weird that they didn't put a crimp in the top hopefully it is stable enough and doesn't flex a lot

Hey Neil - It's pretty solid construction so anything on top wont worry it I'm sure - it has a baffle through the middle so is a result of that welding but I'll check with the producer to see whats the go - once it has some gas in it and pressurised may be no issue

I've had one of those tanks in the wagon for a while. It has survived numerous test drives, about 800km of being towed on a car trailer, had crap stored on it... no dramas with bowing. The only drama I had was that the top of the fuel sender got surface rust (not sure if mine was originally cad plated... its been a while). Cosmetic issue only.
I ended up running stainless lines off the tank, all the way to the carb - never have to worry about rust in the fuel system if I end up accidently getting a load of E10 (or E85

).

Double checked colours today to make sure paint shop were on the money - pretty good match I reckon - long live Montana Grey. Ashtray cover is orriginal paint - firewall the new. It's a funny colour - has a fair bit of red/pink in it when the sun hits it so much be from the purple family of EK's
