Yes that is a shitty part if you haven't done it before !
I have used the deoxidine brand that is diluted in water. Wet and scuff with a green scotchbrite pad let it react for a minute (do not let it dry) then rinse with water (wet rag) and dry quickly (dry rag)
It turns the metal a blue tinge if you get the process right. So this kills the microscopic rust and burns the metal to stop the rust for a few hours, creates a surface for paint to stick to and giving you time to seal it.
I also prepsol and it cleans any residue off if the water hasn't.
I haven't had paint lift off any panels yet and again its practice and more practice.
Regards Greg

Thanks Greg and Harv,
Yep, I've got confidence in the process now, and wax and grease remover takes off the slight residue leaving some blue and copper colours here and there. All good. Anyway the Epotec seems to stick like the proverbial.
Now hinges and gate have some paint I fitted up with mastic and can take the hinges off the body.Should all bolt up nice in the end.

Agree with everyone Clay, looking really good and loving watching the progress. I know you can see it yourself but pic for others to see the result.

Thanks for your comments good people.
Now.
Milestone!

Uncanny how a bit of paint highlights any small imperfections.

Driver side turns out pretty good anyway.

Clay this is looking absolutely fantastic, very well done
I took the complete opposite approach to Leroy’s body work & paint, concentrating instead on getting the mechanicals A1 for rego. As Leroy is my first EK, I wasn’t even sure if I was going to enjoy driving a stock standard grey motored, drum brakes, 3 speed car around... so I spent minimal time & money on this stuff. A year later of thoroughly enjoying driving him around, I am very much regretting my approach! Seeing how good yours looks right now is adding to the anguish.
Can’t wait to see the Wedgewood Blue going on.
Cheers Joe

Yes it’s all sealed up now but no time to rest if I want to drive it to Toowoomba. Swore I’d never use paint stripper again but 10 minutes with the strip disc I’m over it.
