Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Thanks John. Better in the shed than the garden mate. Cool change on the way.

Great progress Clay - paint is not far away now - hope you get a few weeks of cooler weather to get stuck in
You will find me lost somewhere!
Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
So I etch primed a few bits. Pretty bad run on the inside of the tailgate which probably serves me right for trying to paint it all in one go, as results are better on horizontal surfaces.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Nice one clay, so at this stage a bit of sanding will eliminate the runs !!!!!!
Your on to the fun part now.

Cheers Greg, yes sanding.
Paint shop gave me a deoxidising liquid which is phosphoric acid based. Smells and feels just like ranex. Instructions are to wipe on, wipe off, then rinse thoroughly with water and dry quickly.
I don’t like the water idea much but realise it has to be cleaned off. I found that light oxidisation forms and seems to pretty much entirely defeat the purpose of de-oxidising the bare metal. So now I am rinsing off with methylated spirits, which makes me feel much happier.

I don’t know, now I am reading more stuff that says definitely use water and that a coppery coloured deposit is normal. Yet this tends to wipe off when I prepsol.

Re: Clay’s Wedgewood Blue FB Ute
Definitely need to wash off the phosphoric metal conditioners. On bare, fresh steel they do not react much (if at all)... only on rust. They leave behind a residue that does not help paint sticking. Found that out the hard way whilst painting all the odds and ends for the wagon.
