This seal gets discarded, on the stainless I started with 600, and finished with 2000, and then on to the buffer.

Going back together with the latch, yep I dropped the little split pin, and spent 1/2 hour on my hands and knees looking for it.

Nice work Thomo. Take it you have lined up the loan of a rivet gun from the fairies to put it back together.

G'day Neil,
Please find a couple of photos, showing orientation of how I ran the rivets, please note the end of your rivet gun must be long enough to go inside a bailey channel.
I have included a photo of the original channel which attaches to the quarter vent runner, the profile on the end which you will have to cut is important, this channel is also riveted in place.
hope it helps

Thomo

Good work Thommo. Those look bigger than the originals but obviously work. Off to get some rivets that side on the morning and give it a try

Any reason for choosing aluminium rivets Thommo or just what was on the shelf?

G'day Errol,
Sorry for the late response, yes our local hardware shop carried these type of rivets, size was the only difference in there range.

Bought some steel ones to try and yes my gun has a longer fitting to suit which should enable me to get in to the c section at the bottom. Thanks for the detail. Following with interest.

Morning,
Well that is the door glass installed, not 100% as I have a couple of small jobs to add to the list. I will write them down here to help me remember.
Bailey channel right rear door has no bailey channel on the top, I am not sure what went wrong? a couple of options, I have installed the top in the front leading edge, or cut the top to length and placed the 2 pieces on the bench and then grabbed the wrong length and cut again and installed in the front leading edge of the door, bottom line is: when I came to install the top piece its about 3/4 of an inch short, so a bit of colorful language was used last night, consequence will be measure and find the mistake remove the door internals or order a new piece of bailey channel and install in the top section of the door when it arrives.
Passenger front quarter vent latch, I had the latch on and off a 1/2 dozen times, the symptoms were the lock would not engage ( intermittent) and the latch handle is able to turn 360 deg, after on and off I found the problem, the small button which gets pressed; its lower edges are rounded, and the pressure applied with the small spring holds the button off the shoulder, allowing it too turn, the investigation caused a second problem: when removing the small roll pin it came out faster than liked! all I heard was it hitting the metal roller door, a lot more colorful language was used, its gone, I got a new roll pin from miter-10 but I still need to fix the button
and an easy one, I need to put some sealant around the left rear door latch.
I have had a guts-full of doors for the time being I will find something else to do today.
regards
Thomo.
