EK Bonnet Catch

Post by Bigpete »

G'day all, just new to the forum, and a newly purchased EK. I have a problem with the bonnet catch....to open it, I need to pull the catch with my right hand, then stick my left hand through the grille to push across the second catch. I noticed there is a provision for a cable mounted under the dash, but no cable. My questions are:
Did the EK have a release inside the cab, and will I need it for rego?
If I can get one, will this solve my problem, as my hand is getting pretty elongated and deformed?
If the catch system is faulty, any ideas where I can get a replacement?
Or am I just a moron, and operating it wrong?
Any help, pics or suggestions would be great, and there is actually no need to respond to my last question. Thanks, - Pete

Yep, EK had bonnet release.

Yes a pedantic rego inspector can knock you back for rego if it doesn't work correctly.

The cable sounds like it broke under a previous owner and he's just taken it away and opened it the harder way.

In the meantime as a quick fix to help your tired aching fingers try spraying some WD 40 or similar on the release mechanism.

Oh, and welcome to the forum and the wonderfull world of FB/EK ownership :D :D :D
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

Hi BigPete, welcome to the forum.
:D :D

I'm only at Burpengary, so if you need anything, were not that far apart.

Blacky. The bigger they are the harder they fall.
But your the fighter.

Re- bonnet catch, mine doesn't have one either.
Seems fairly common that they stick and break.
For a RWC I needed the catch to be firm (mine was loose) but didn't need the cable. Which just isn't there.
FB's didn't have the cable. Just the EK's.
