How can I fix my seat?

Post by J »

Alrighty,
My front seat is a camper seat, it slides back and forward as Id assume all do, but, the passenger side will not lock into place!

This means when im driving down the road with a passenger the seat slides forward, even without a passenger sometimes it does the same so i give it a thump and it locks in until i turn another corner

Here's a video to show whats happening.

Obviously it is something to do with the rails, is it easy enough to fix myself?
If not, what kind of person can fix this type of thing?

can't see shit in that video jay!
just try the obvious stuff first, check the rails and locking mechanisms to see that they're lubed alright, that nothing looks like it has been broken or sheared off, and that nothing is stuck in there-its probably something simple like that. maybe a broken spring or whatever helps them lock in.
you should be able to fix it yourself

Next time film during the day
Pull the seat out and flip it over, you'll find that the locking tab on the passenger side is either broken (less likely) or jammed (most likely), if the latter free it up with some WD40 then clean it up and grease it. There are also linkages and springs that may be damaged or missing.
If you can't work it out let me know and I can take a pic of one of the seats in my shed for reference. HTH
