V8 into an EK sedan

Post by SHREK72 »

Hello all,

I was thinking about putting a V8 into one of my EK sedans.

Can anyone tell me the biggest engine size I can put in it??

I have been told you can't put in a 350 Chev. Is this correct??

Also is fitting a 253/308 harder than a Chev engine??

What does anyone recommend??

I am partial to the 253/308 but again have been told harder and more expensive.

Any help and guidance is appreciated.

Hi 327 is the biggest you can go in an EK. Yeah there is more work putting a 253/308 in a Ek and cost heaps more for parts... Cheers Mark

 Yep, 327 cubes is the maximum size here in NSW this week but the way they are stuffing around with modification laws here at the moment, don't be surprised that next week we won't be able to put in anything bigger than a bloody Victa 2 stroke engine    .

I'm doing 307 chev to EK at the moment, mini's doing 305 to EK, Billy blackarrows doing 305 to FB, Ratbox has done a few of them and there are a few other blokes doing them ATM and some others that have already done some as well.
I can't think what to write here so this will do.

don't know where you got that idea from :? cost to me would be about the same i'de even say the 308 cheaper, if done correctly no need for custom pipes on the 308 i've yet to see a chev conversion using manifolds, we did the van drive in red 6 4 speed drive out holden V8 auto in a week working on it part time with no kit all fabricated cost not including labour couple of hundred dollars for parts including engine/gearbox

everybody will have a differant view on what's better/easier depending on what they're doing or prefered engine, i can speak from experiance if the chev conversion was cheaper/easier than the 308 i wouldn't have done 2 308 into FB/EK conversions

Ive done both a loooooong time ago and cos i cant weld i had to get the welding done for the 308 where the chev just dropped straight in. Thats why i chose the chev this time around. The chev parts compared to the holden parts that i need for the engine are a lot cheaper. Cheers Mark

 Sorry Mark for the inference that you'd gone over to the dark side and bought an EK :? ........ it was a late at night typo error there and I've since sacked the secretary  .

I'm only chopping up an EK for 307 chev 'cos I don't want to waste the better model.... that being the FB!!

I'm going to try cast factory chev exhaust manifolds with my 307 to EK as I'm not keen on the extractors through the inner skirt look.I'm trying to acheive a "factory look " conversion with this one.

I've got some cheap to buy smog model, rear outlet exhaust manifolds that I'm hoping I will be able to use instead of the HK/T/G "Rams Horn" centre outlet that the 307 currently has.If the smoggies work OK I'll search for some similar shape earlier non smog manifolds so I don't have to plug up the smog air injection ports.

I was talking to someone at the Bendigo Nats that said he thought one of the '60's corvette type manifolds was the right shape and with rear outlets that can be used in chev V8 conversion using cast manifolds.

I'll have to research that one a bit more , hope the research doesn't "exhaust" me too much    .

Shrek72, tow your car over to Ratbox Conversions Pty Ltd for a tow in, drive out V8 EK. :D

Don't just think 307 chev, there is also the 305 chev from the 1980's which are still around and imported, the old 283 chev which can still be found and the 327 chev which will most likely cost you and arm and leg as well as the very rare 302 chev.

There is also the smaller 265 and 267 Chev but not many of them around.

Try this bloke in Thomastown in Melbourne.

J.T Imports ( John )

0425 813 335.

He imports engines, gearbox's etc from the states and I bought a Turbo 350 box from him last year and found him to be a nice bloke and easy to deal with.

He even make me and the mrs a coffee and biccies whilst they unloaded the T350 from the pallet whist we waited :D :D :D .

He would probably have reasonable freight charges if he uses a regular freight company and he also mentioned to me if anyone from this forum mentions that they got his details from this forum then he would give them a discount.

Try him if you want.

I'm NOT on a sales commision for writing this
