Anti rattle shims

Post by thropzed »

Hey All, as the title says, I'm looking for the shims that go on the back of HT disc pads to stop that horrific squealing!!!
Any help, ideas, or just plain english would be great.
Goodyear have no clue
Repco say that they were phased out in the 90's
ABS say 240z datsun shims will fit if ya can find em
Monaro boys have never heard of this problem

Hi Theo, try a product called Disc Brake Quiet. It's red coloured stuff much like silastic and you put a small amount on the back of the disc pads where they contact the caliper and piston. The squeal is caused by vibration between the caliper and piston. I use it on my customers cars whenever i replace the pads and have never had a problem since. Bursons carry it in stock.

PS, Still looking for those plates. If someone comes across a TC or TD Cortina with original discs can you check to see if the rattle pads are still there!
