I have come to appreciate who much these cars are worth to spend a bit extra and get something that you can drive home a put straight in the garage and not have to touch, gold.
Or do what I did, bought a $3500 wagon and it's taken 3 years of stripping it down to a rusted out shell and fixing it up slowly when we (family) could have been out enjoying driving it , Trev .

I agree with Trev, Paid 5 for mine and a couple of weeks of stuffing around doing to it what I want and the family have been on two club runs in it already!

I also agree. I have been putting away every cent I can since Feb. I have about $5000 at the moment, so I could get a car that needs work if i wanted. But as Trev said, I would rather wait a bit longer and find something drivable and in pretty good nick so we (family) can enjoy it straight away. The problem is not being tempted by something and thinking to myself,"I could fix it up over the next 6 to 8 months, and then we can go cruisin", because it never happens like that! (plus MRSDAKAM would have a shit fit if I brought something home that was about to fall into 1000 pieces.)

You can probably spend 5 grand or there about and get something that is totally driveable, but may need stuff like a paint job in the future and has the odd dent or bit of rust here and there.
In hindsight I probably should've spent close to double that and got something that was close to 100% perfect, though at the time I was looking there weren't many like that around.
Thats what I am ultimately lokking for, a car that doesnt need much at all. It does get very frustrating as you said Cal, all the cars around at the moment around the 10grand mark, which would be perfect, but i dont have the dollars for them at this moment in time. When I do , the market will dry up and there will be nothing around, Murphys law!

What I've found as well is that a lot of the cars I was looking at around the 10 to 12 grand mark weren't exactly cars that needed little to no work.
Some had more rust than the one I have now, though to be honest even with that sort of money (and considering the age of these cars) you're not going to find one thats near perfect.
I was sort of lucky with mine. Sometimes I think I paid too much for it, but apart from having a rough body (don't look at the photo's - it's rough) I got a relatively good deal.
What's opened my eyes is the cost in having work done to these cars. Panelbeaters seem to be living in another world as far as I'm concerned.......especially when you get quoted double what the car cost for a few body repairs and a respray.
That's whats pushed the price of these cars up. If a guy is going to spend 15 to 20 grand restoring one, he's not going to want to sell it for peanuts.
I was in the same shoes as you, Dakam..........looking for one that needed little to no work. If you find one thats a little cheaper that needs work that doesnt have to be done straight away, and is driveable and presentable, don't knock it back
For around the money I am looking at, all I want is a good honest reliable car that wont shit itself within a couple of weeks of purchasing it. It doesnt bother me if it needs a bit of work, just not a total rebuild. I will keep my eyes peeled, I am quite confident that I will find something, oneday
