J,

been giving this alot of thought since you rang me and rather than pm you i've posted here for others with more experience to hopefully and additional info or even throw mine out the window and give better adice, so come on those in the know or with the experience help out a fella....

Firstly, welding mounts on the kingpin corssmember to accept the 161 (and it's anti-vibe mounts the ones with the rubber in them)...they may require engineering sign-off, please someone correct me and they may overlook it but from an licensing and insurance point of view i'ts a structural mount which if done incorrectly can cause a hazard to yourself and others...might be worth a call to the welshpool dpi on that one...

anyway's the way i would go about it...is get some RHS tube, call a couple of steel company ton's in whelshpool might get you some off cuts otherwise just buy a metre will come in handly later, i think a red motor anti-vibe mount has about 40mm clearence between the sides (check on the ones you have on the 202) i can't imagine you would need no more than 300mm and so grab some 40x40x3 (or 4mm thick).

Now you already have the engine out so thats good, bolt the trimatic up to the red, engine crane it into the bay, lower, and jack the gearbox up under the pan (stick a block of wood between the pan and jack, as to not dent, crack whatever under pressure - might not happen but just to be safe depending on the type of jack you use) when the engines in a good position, centred and you have made sure you can take the rocket  cover off measure rougly the distance between the engine mount on the 161 and the crossmember (on the same angle as the engine mount, not straight down, it will no doubt be on the curve of the crossmember) cut down the 40x40 RHS to the required size , you mihgt also have to diagonally cut the bottom of the RHS mount to suit the profile of the crossmember which you want as close as possible... once you have a good size drill out the RHS to suit the red engine mount, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have some steel tube offcut that you can used inside for a crush tube as the licensing boys would ike that (if they look), then bolt that up to the anti-vibe mount.

Once your happy with the position tack weld them to the crossmember (sand the paint off so you have a better weld) then unbolt and get the engine out of there, and fully weld around the base of the mount, i would then grab some flat sheet (like 1.6mm) and cut out 2 40x40mm squares and weld them to the top of the mount so no water can get in and rust it out from inside...once down prime and and rebolt the engine, and grab some more RHS 35x35x3 should be ok, and figure away for an tranny mount...sorry no sure on this one though!

the tranny crossmember depending what you do might also need to be signed off i dont know...worth checking first! maybe speak to who you got the grey to trimatic kit off, they may be able to explain a good tranny mount...

Cheers

Rear cross member will be totally different for the red n tri gear box rear mount than the grey n tri, I'm pretty sure you don't need one with the grey set up, because of the engine mounting points being 1 at the front of the engine and 2 at the back of the engine (front of Tri), Trev 8) .

J, do you have an auto or manual body EK?? IF you have an auto body EK, it is relatively easy to fabricate the rear Trimatic crossmember, basically a Torana one with a couple of very easy mods and it bolts in similar to HR style through the floor bracing in the auto tunnel, shoot me a PM and I will get some details to you if it is auto body

My EK ran a hyrdomatic so it has the bigger floor hump.
So your saying fabricate a cross member which attaches to the floor brace on the interior?

OK J that makes it easy!

Go to a local wrecker and grab a crossmember off a LH Torana (tri and Aussie 4 speed the same)

the ends are different mounting and hang out past the floor bracings, these can be cut off with to the width of the rails that come back for floor support on your body shell, where the gearbox will sit.

Weld four flat pieces of steel (two each side on either side of the crossmember forming a U shape) that will fit up over the floor brace.

drill through floor bracing and fit crush tubes in the floor braces horizontally to mount gearbox, use standard crossmember rubber mount and bolt it up!

I will get some pictures and link them tomorrow for you as I have one here I prepared earlier!

yes sir....

well I purchased the 161 which was complete and running
then discovered complete and running means you have to buy a thermostat, a housing, a fuel pump, flex plate and a new water pump.

Got the gearbox over to which are putting it all together for me.
I believe he got the EH sump etc on the engine, went to bolt the gearbox together but I have the wrong torque converter.

So im going to get another torque converter, then he will bolt it all together with the new waterpump, recond'd fuel pump and thermostat stuff that I bought. Drop the engine in and start making brackets.

From Wednesday onwards there will be some real progress, with pics as I will be there wednesday, thurs, fri and sat providing it aint on the road by then.
