It was a Monaro - Funny story

Post by Finny »

Found an Ebay ad that was worthy of keeping a little longer, the highlights................... :D :D :D :D
Like a "Where's Wally", find the car......

I always hate finding an old thread on Ebay, as the links have long since gone. Did a copy and paste so this one can last.

up for auction is a 1968 hk gts 81837 monaro. its very very very rusty but anything can be restored with the right money. car is basically a bare shell but i have collected a huge amount of parts for this car (doors, guards, bonnet, boot, interior incl. seats dash etc, fuel tank, rust free roof, rust free sedan floor (same), rh quarter panel, 327 block, diff, steering box and various rare spares panels. these parts will be included if car reaches reserve otherwise they will be used on another project.

rare spares will probably be reproducing hk ht hg shells soon anyway???

tags and firewall suggest a sydney built car. warwick yellow with parchment interior (rare). very low build number (under 100). comes with original number plates. tag numbers and cars address will only be provided to winning bidder. no exceptions and no rubber neckers.

reserve is set at a price i think is reasonable considering these cars are worth 150k+ complete. do the maths.

any questions, please email me

ok just to educate some people out the as to the value of these cars... visit carsales and search for hk.

The thing looks like it would crumble to dust if you gave it one kick......

It;s even worse than that heap Monaro that sold at Shannons a few years back for something like 60 grand.

All you were basically paying for was the shell and the compliance plates

You could have a look ! :D

Opps. No you can't.
"cars address will only be provided to winning bidder. no exceptions and no rubber neckers. "
Guess you can only look at it after you win and pay for it.

Guess you just have to buy it based on what you see in the photo.

Probably could have had more photos or at least one you could see.....

$15,000 - 1 bid & reserve not met
By the type of questions asked (all on 8 April) it sounds like him or his mates, but lets not forget - it is ebay, which in it's self is a reason to inflate prices.
The only reason for time is so everything dosen't happen at once.
If Macca's home delivered there'd be one less drunk on the road.

A guy at work's best mate had a HK 327 GTS Monaro, it sold for in excess of $250,000!! If the tags are legit, its understandable he's asking that money. Its not the first time I've seen something like that before. Seen an XU1 totally stuffed shell BUT it was legit and all the important bits as far as I.D. goes was there and it sold for good money. It too was a rebody job.
Speed and Style........... One day I'll get the speed bit.

What is the point in paying for tags if they are only going to be placed onto a non genuine car. Seems like the whole purpose has been lost.
Seems like I'll never be able to buy a collectable, as it may be just a common car with a collectable plate stuck on it.

A Monaro is a Monaro, there is no difference that I know of between a 161 3 spd on the tree and a Bathurst model (in the body that is), unlike the GTHO's which had extra welds in the body that you can (if you know what your looking for) tell a GT/GS body from the 200 ci models.
So as long as you have the tags, go ahead and replace the body, who's going to tell?
I am going off what I have read and been told over the years, so if I am wrong please educate me  , Trev 8) .

True, but even though they have similar shells it's still not a "genuine" car.

This particular car on Ebay..........if or when that's re bodied there's no way in hell that its still a GTS, especially if it hasnt got the original engine block either

And when your spending upwards of 250 grand buying one of these things, you will try find out if its original shell or not 8)

Never said I agreed or actually cared too much for that matter.
Forgot to mention the HK GTS was no rebody it was the real deal, to the extent he even restored the battery which came from a chook shed in Bathurst! rebadging has been going on for years, as Trev said there isn't a great difference.

Finny you seem to be forgetting something, you have a collectable, its a wagon and you're part way through redoing it, same with your Val. Just because its not a Bathurst Specced model doesn't mean its not collectable.
Just means it doesn't fetch ridiculous money and if thats all you're worried about you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

haven't heard much of it here but on the FE/FC forum they're always going on about history of cars, and in my opinion unless you actually know the person that's owned the car from word dot you don't know the full history you might think you do but i think otherwise
like the low mile cars here yor still only taking somebodies word for it no matter how good they seem

along with what trev said i knew a GTHO freak we found a dumped falcon body with some bits on it took him to have a look straight away he picked it as a non genuine body but did have some genuine parts on it

i've seen ID advertised before for around this money if you want to get technical to put that ID on another car you'de be rebirthing it, there must be a heap of these floating around though plain monaro with the ID changed, good on him for finding it but hate his smart arse i'm the greatest attitude, wonder if he'de be such a hero to some of the people to there faces
