Red Motor EK
Red Motor EK
Hi guys,to put red motor in EK Hydramatic sedan,(not mine),must you have HR Xmember too?

The same thing you would have to do on a HR Xmember, if ya going to use the standard front either make them yourself or cut them of a EH Xmember.
If you or your friend aren't up to the job buy a converted Xmember and rear brakes if going HR. Someone here would have one.

So, the Red motor sump will clear the EK X member alright and go onto the Hydramatic , but do you have to use EH eng. mounts or will any do ? I was thinking of doing this to one if it was for sale ?

If my memory serves me right, I would go for HR disc brake front end with the complete HR steering components, you have to change the HR front outrigger arm to an EH one. To do this you have to grind or gas axe the rivets and dress all your cut areas, then weld the EH outrigger to the crossmember in the same place on the member. The engine mounts will have to cut off and shifted rearwards by around 20 to 25mm then rewelded on. The red motor sump from EH as well as oil pickup will be required.
I'm not sure you can run the Hyleydramatic due to the flywheel /torque converter set up, you would be better running the traumatic and standard converter for an easier conversion, with the gearshift quadrant you could use a HK/HT/HG or even HQ series.
Sorry I meant Hydramatic and Trimatic.
Hope this helps

And you will also need to make a new gearbox member as well when installing the trimatic box.
