i have a problem got the car going, then fuel problems changed pump ok for a little while changed the tank and blew out the lines, ok again for a little while now have brand new fuel pump and still the same problem, but it seems to run ok with a tin in the engine bay, a little while is alright idleing but only drives for about 1km before problems, could it be the pickup in the tank? but like i said this is the second tank with the same problem hope some one has some ideas

Really sounds like oxygen starvation! Try driving with the fuel cap off.
Does you fuel cap have a breather hole? The tank must breathe
Or are you getting dirty fuel? (like is it sucking up dirt?)

Also check to see if somewhere in the line to the fuel pump that there isn't an incy wincy hole as this will allow it to suck in air along the line.A small hole or perforation will still allow some fuel to get through (enough for idle or a bit above) but not enough for normal driving.
I'd say your 1 km drive is only using carb bowl fuel until this runs out.
Are there bubbles of air in the fuel bowl?

My FB had what appeared to be a good rubber hose from steel fuel line to fuel pump. However it wouldn't suck fuel into the pump as I found it had the most minute hole in the line allowing it to suck air instead.

Just one of many possibilities.

Is your needle valve sticking?
Could also be what smooth said if you have a non breathing fuel cap.

Hope this helps,

Terry.

"Are there bubbles of air in the fuel bowl"

I mean't to say

"Are there bubbles of fuel in the fuel pump glass bowl when the engine is running"

Typo error, secretary sacked!!

Oh yeah,
Sounds very familiar! I took nearly 3 days to find a problem with fuel, got to say lucky the cars still with us! Very tempted to set fire to it I tell you.
Any way I went through a new pump, fuel cap off carby cleaning blowing the line out etc etc, just couldnt find it! I had no choice but to pull every thing out and clean and inspect and then there it was! A small piece of rust flake from the tank had made its way to the flexible hose near the pump brass fitting and wedged itself by 2 corners. Every time I blew it out it rotated and cleared the way but suck fuel back and it closed like a flap on a non return valve. It was so small I couldnt believe it was the problem but it was!
Good luck
