CRS Drop stubs install advice.

I am currently installing my crs drop spindles and i'm after some advice.
Does the brake backing plate need to be refitted as it does not seem to fit the larger crs drop spindles ?
Or do they require modification to fit ?
If not i'm guessing you just leave them out ?

i left mine off but im ruff and they wouldnt fit easy if at all
