Nationals road trips and other stories...

Post by Brown Bear »

OK guys just a few weeks to go... time to wet the appetite and pass on some of the Nats road trip stories that must surely be fondly remembered by our members

Here's one of may favourites to get things going...

1999 Shepparton Nats; Beersy and I drove down from Sydney using a number of old trucking back roads. It was an anniversary of the Beatles Visiting Australia (30 years?) and the station I was tuned into played Beatles non stop until the reception ran out somewhere near Goulburn. :D Bliss :D

At the same time Beersy's radiator called it quits and so we rolled into Gundagai to seek out some repairs. The fellow who handled the job Looked at the EK and my FB and said "if you like these things, drop back in on your way home and I'll show you my collection"

His property had a sort of sinkhole in it, in which were the remains of numerous - and very rusty! - old Holdens, Fords and Valiants Etc. Basically anything that had conked out and abandoned in town was 'filed' here for future reference. Most Interesting was a dark green EK standard... bet Jacko hasn't got that colour

Beersys car seems to have a habit of breaking down on the way to/from the nationals
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.
