Im sure if the van was ordered with a camper seat from new,
holdens would have fitted it, but you couldn't lay it down in a van. :o
It would hit the bulkhead behiend the seat. :?

Thommo, I think vintageholden is talking about the fold down rear seat that you could get for the vans. There was one on evilbay last week and didn't get a bid at $50. I have two camper seats, one was made by Athol Hedges Coach builders here in brisbane and the other was made by another coach builder down fortitude valley way. My brothers car has one as well but it is a little different to mine as it has a lever on the side that clicks the seat down to what ever angle that is required. Both of mine have a lever under the front drivers side and they just fall back. If you slide the seat forward they fold flat if you leave in driving position they sit on an angle cause they rest on the rear seat. Great for Drive-ins and lovers lane. lol :P :P

Camping Seat Conversion

Post by Dr Terry »

Hi Guys.

These seats were made & fitted by various aftermarket companies. just like the side flash kits. They were never made or fitted by Holden at the factory.

Many dealers offered these to new buyers & when they received the car from the factory, they just sent it out & had it converted & then added it to the price, when new.

Some of these companies still exist today & fit things like the 3rd row seats in the rear of station wagons.

Here's a pic of Bev's old FC at NSW AHD 05 with the camp seat in action.
Looks great, but I challenge anyone to actually sleep on it. :?
cheers

Hi Wayne,

I have a copy from the GMH Accelerator magazine of how to modify the existing brackets of your seat into a camper.

Will try and post up for you.
