Engine bay wiring loom

Post by Bushcreature »

G'day all, the EK ute has had an engine bay electrical fire and burnt all the electrical loom on the passenger side, I'll see if I can post a picture.
Does anyone have a loom they are willing to part with?
I'm in SA.
Thanks.

Hello

From the picture the main battery cables appear to be affected. The wiring to the passenger headlight & parker/ indicator light looks sound?

From what I can see you just need new earth cable & positive cable to starter motor in addition to three generator cables, assuming you are still running a generator.

As part of your repairs it would be wise to install a fuse in the feed from the starter motor to the fuse block. That section of wiring was unprotected originally.

Might be best to split what’s left into burnt and unburnt then just replace the fried ones - at least they will be new and not another set of 65 years old wires ? As Stephen said an inline fuse is cheap insurance
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Thankyou both. These small wires are a nightmare!

I would almost guarantee the regulator cut out coil has fused closed. When this happens the battery tries to motor the generator. This causes a massive over current draw through the wiring to the generator via the regulator. Either way it's worth checking. A fuse would also prevent the after effects of the regulator fault.
