G'day all, Just wondering what coil springs people have used in they're V8 EK's with HR front ends fitted with HZ stub axles?
I contacted King springs for a recomendation based on the HR front end, V8, transmission and 1 inch lower stub axles.
They got back to me with the following:-
-KHFS-02 which are normally a raised height +30mm spring in the HR with the 6cyl so with the heavier LS engine + transmission and drop stubs I would still think it will be a couple inches lower than standard.
Has anyone done this?
I'm building a cruiser not a racer, also a lot of dips and potholes in the country.
Thanks in advance!
BC.

I would think a 202 and trimatic would only be around 100kg lighter than an LS with a 4l60E, 2" lifted springs would be a bit of overkill I think ?
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Thanks Blacky, thats what I was thinking too. I recall the 308 was only 22Kg heavier than the 202.

Hi BC,
Usually when getting this right its a couple of spring sets until your happy, ride height first then comfort second.
My car has a torana front with HQ stubs (1 inch lower than the torana stubs). Originally I went standard height SLR V8, verdict, too high about 50mm and too hard.
So armed with this info and final weight I decided standard height 6 cyl which was equivalent to a one inch lowered V8 in the book.
I got those springs, instlled them and they are good, much softer ride as well as being low enough to suit the car.
I used Lovells by the way, I dont like king springs, I had some issues with Patrol springs and none of their data was accurate.
Probably not much help to you being HR but thats the road you will probably need to take which unless your lucky first go its trial and error.

HR front end, SBC, HR hubs machined to suit Conformadore rotors. I used standard HR springs and am happy with them for cruise, tow and drag.

Running 186 and 202 which I know isn’t what you asked, but anyway, I did try the heavy duty springs, which raised the ride height. Then I cut them down 1 coil to give a bit lower stance, however the ride comfort was poor with excessive jarring. In the end I went back to original HR springs with one coil chopped, giving a 2” lowering on stock. With 25, yes 25mm stsbiliser bar and Monroe GT sports rider shocks ride, handling and comfort are pretty good. I had the 25mm stabiliser bar custom made by industrial springs in the 80s. Sadly no longer trading.

Hi Bushy
I also have not had much faith in King Springs, a friend had bought a set and wanted me to fit them they were supposed to be standard height but when I sat them beside a 2" drop set I had they were the same height.
I have V6's in my cars and I've used standard HR springs with 2" drop spindles and VT Commodore brakes, very happy with the ride.

Thanks for your input, I'll start with standard hight HR springs and see how it works out. When the build progresses I'll post it on this forum.
As a side note, (please don't anyone get offended) I've never had a problem with kings springs, used them in VS com, a few 4x4 and a few other cars.
Thanks once again.
