Turbo time - grey motor

Post by Blacky »

Now that I have a nicely rebuilt good running engine in the ute the only sensible thing to do is try and blow it up ImageImage
Work has started on the turbo manifold- Ryan has made the collector section

Got the test bench set up to make sure everything fits - need Sonic injection to pull their fingers out and make me a 32/36 Weber manifold- we are also tossing up the idea of running a couple of small throttle bodies on a twin strommie manifold and then run 3 injectors into bosses welded into it

Period correct 5-10 P.S.I. mate, the plan is to keep the crank ABOVE the crossmember......

Did you see that little Morry ute with the Wade blower on it for sale on Bookface the other day ??? Tempting........

Harv's to-do list
a) Discretely find a smaller top pulley for the Rattler.
b) Secretly find a stronger wastegate spring for the ute.

   The automotive equivalent of getting Rick rolled.
Look forward to sharing this with my son - he put a WRX turbo on his 2006 Forester - pretty much sounds like that

Early 90's cars with a BOV I can handle. Slam the throttle shut, the BOV lifts and the turbo compressor has somewhere to flow air to. The sututututu noise makes my soul hurt. That's the noise of a throttle slamming shut, no BOV, the compressor having nowhere to go, and going into surge. I spend a lot of time around heavy turbomachinery, where surge is enough to destroy a machine.

Modern aftermarket turbo compressor wheels are designed for surge, but still puts my teeth on edge. Number One Son knows this, and takes great joy in sending me videos of his sister's stock i30 with the BOV temporarily disconnected. No idea where he learned to shit-stir like that
