flame thrower kit help

Post by (AUST)Mod »

Hi All,
I just installed my ebay flame kit, but can't make any flames. I believe I have wired it correctly, as the control box makes a click noise when I press the button, and the spark plug makes a tiny spark. Is the engine meant to stall when I press the button for more than half a second? Is the spark meant to be big? At the moment the spark is really small, like what I would expect from a BBQ lighter thingo that has had alot of use. Any tips guys?

You need a good spark plug and decent gap, if place correctly you should see a good spark when the switch is flicked.

Yes the engine will stall, when you flick the switch it kills the power to the coil in the engine bay and sends it rearward to the box and coil in the boot.

The trick is to fuel the car up, BUT be warned this will stuff your bores up as you wash away the oil with raw fuel....

Simply warm up the car (and obviously the exhaust) it works better this way. Bring the revs up a little, you don't need to rev the ring out of your car either. Then when you flick the switch to actuate the flamethrower pump the go pedal as quick as you can and just as the motor nearly stalls flick it back so it runs, repeat the above procedure and voila, flamage!!!!

Just remember its likely these are illegal in your state so choose wisely where you unleash......

More fuel bigger flame, I think blue flame alot of heat not much fuel. Never quite worked it out, but I have photo's of blue flames too

Just remember this will do damage to the engine.

Blue Flame = Lots of Oxygen, and a really really hot flame. I would like to give this a try tonight with the choke out, to see if I can get a more orange flame. I will also try it with pulp next time I fill up.

id hate to be hind you aust mod, when your impressin the chicks at the traffic lights.....

Anyhow, you have a nice car, for the love of peter glading (fcmini can explain) , make sure you keep it on the road, and you dont destory it as dr said, then take it home on a tilt tray.

Love the video, can you image that out of my twin pipes... mmmm ideas ideas ideas...

To aviod the engine cut off, we installed a second coil within the car for the flame thrower only. It would blow for ages on the eh. Try and get it running a bit richer with the carbs, a bit nmore fuel could increase the size of the flame. Man i miss my childhood.

I do have a second coil in the boot for the flame thrower :) As for the engine, the sooner it blows up, the sooner my dad will have to put his money where his mouth is and get a rb 30 for it 8)

I forgot about using the choke it helps to. Its easier than messing with the mixture each time you want to play

On my old EK the exhaust angled down   great for burning lawns at parties  I also managed to go the full length of the cruise section of Chapel Street many years ago in a blaze of glory.....

In hindsight not one of my smarter moves, but hey no harm no foul.
