Yes, you're right of course Greg, my experiences with 2k etch primer were very positive, but I remain uneasy about safety aspects. I did get a run or two and it was warmer then, but I didnt try different speed hardeners. This may well be my last car project so I'll stick to my old friend acrylic. She has been kind to me. 🙂

1.2mm nozzle helps a lot I find. Humidity <60%.

Ok my three bobs worth on the rear fuel line section..
The last bend to the tank outlet I found tricky to line up. Next time I would try and start from that end, and don’t crimp it. You’ll need plenty of flow with those three great jugs guzzling away upfront.

Just a thought, but I reckon if mixtures are right, three constant depression carbies will not use more fuel than a single standard stromberg. Different story with multiple carbs each with accelerator pumps.

Brake and fuel lines in place now. Waiting on a fuel pressure regulator from UK to finish. Aiming for 3-4 psi at float bowls. A cute little guage to go with it.

Returned the dummy engine block to Orange Betty (Dave) today. Put it in and out 7 times to get everything sorted. Tinleg (Sam) gave me a lift with it yesterday. Your help is much appreciated gents.

Quite right. Just joshing. I don’t think gearing has that much influence either when it comes to consumption. Just because an engine is revving lower doesn’t mean it is using less fuel. It’s all about how efficient it is and how much work it is doing. The cam and driving style have the main influence really. I’m assuming you are continuing the xu1 theme with those items. Hi comp head and high overlap cam, no?

It's interesting watching fuel consumption on my diesel merc. Going up a reasonable hill and flipping up or down a gear doesn't make much difference in litres/100kms.

I have been playing with diff ratios etc and have found on our trips home from east the ute gets better economy with a shorter diff ratio - motor is spinning a bit harder but not working as hard .
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Yes it's an interesting topic. Presumably the modern gearboxes with their couple or more overdive ratios are effectively giving the equivalent of different diff ratios. Depending on the load, lowering engine revs does lower fuel consumption except where you are in too low rpm for the power reauired to meet the load. I did a bit of dyno work on a 202 in my early career and there was quite obviously a fuel sweet spot on the power curve ( power being torque x rpm). Electronic wizzardry on modern auto boxes work it all out for you. In the thirsty Merc which has a 7 speed auto, there is a long steady incline hill which I use to play around with gears. The auto picks 4th gear and fuel is about 10l/100km. If I force it into 5th, the engine revs drop about 500 but fuel more or less stsys the same. If I force it into 6th fuel goes up to about 18 l/100 kms, but engine revs dtop another 500 or so , To maintain a constant road speed for the hill even with declining revs requires an increase in torque (producing increased power) and therefor higher fuel consumption to produce it. On a flat road in 7th, fuel is usually around 5.8 l/100 kms and engine revs about 1400
I'm sure this stuff is right in Harv's area of interest and expertise.

Fuel Economy? Wasn't that a grunge band in the 90's? :lol:

Pour fuel in.
Play with machinery until fuel flows in as fast a possible.
Grin until something snaps.
Pretend not to notice empty wallet from fuel pouring and machinery snapping.
Repeat.

Engines are most efficient when producing peak torque in my understanding, so it is down to matching the cam to drive ratio. Stock 186 torque peaked at 2000rpm. Sorry to clog up your build thread.
