Neat work Greg. Hope this sight glass thing doesn't become a trend.

I lashed out and bought some big mufflers, finished them yesterday and did a quick test with a phone noise meter (not sure how accurate).
I ended up with readings of 86DB at 3.5 meters away and 91DB at 1m away and that was in the shed as well ! Fingers crossed.

The mufflers are Flowmaster chambered 50 series, they are quite big but still give the car the V8 rumble only much quieter.

Greg I spoke with the guy that is going to do my exhaust and he said older motors can go up to 95 DB where newer say v6 can only go to 90 DB don't ask me why
I have't checked if he is right or not with a mate that will be doing the Blue slip and the engineer! hope he is right

Pre-January 1983, 96dBa.
1983-2005: 90dBa.
Post-2005: rules are more complex.

For modified vehicles, your engineer may choose the current new vehicle noise requirements (mine did).

Hi Billy,

Harv is correct in relation to noise readings.

Its probably wise to talk to the engineer and if possible get a noise reading from your exhaust man as well.

I'm just a glutton for punishment, and did the exhaust myself so I'm probably taking a risk with the noise level.

I'm not sure how accurate the phone app is but I hope its close !!!!

Good one Bill,

The engineer i am using puts his noise meter approx 1m from the exhaust at about 25 degrees outward then revs it to 3600rpm.

He takes the reading in a wide open space area as well.

Have you got much to do and did you sort the starter ?

Update,

Everything has been done for the engineer and i'm trying to finish all the little bits and pieces that you find when you think you're finished !!

Brake sight glass plastic is a fail, they have developed cracks and are starting to go milky. I have ordered new ones that are glass and waiting patiently for those to arrive.
I was hoping I could be lucky with the plastic but no, the only other concern is the rubber gasket with the new glass but at least that will take a while to break down until I can source the correct type.

Blacky,

That would be immoral as well as illegal, I'm flabbergasted that you would even suggest such a thing !!!!!!

I'll work it out don't you worry :evilll: :evilll: :evilll:
