Hey boys I need an opinion.
The guards have been treated with the Wurth rust converter and my plan was to etch and cover in water based stone guard.
That is what I have done on the rest on the underbody and front subframe.
But the guards are far from perfect and I fear that if I cover the areas shown in stone guard it may trap moisture in the nooks and crannies.

Options are

Etch and stone guard - uniform with rest of the car

Etch and GMH black so any moisture can escape and it’s not a shit show to work on for any future repairs.

My issue is I often over think things…
What do you guys think of the scenario?
What would you do?

I'd vote for stoneguard.

My vote is for normal paint prep primer and top coat (chassis black perfect) and then one of the spray on stoneguards. Have done that on Wilma and will be doing same on project 2. Suggest that you seam seal what you can prior to stoneguard.
You are right though, revisiting later is a bit harder with stoneguard.

They look to have surface rust. If so I would simply brush paint with Metal Fix black.

are they going on and staying on or are you going to pull them off and knock them straight ? If you plan on straightening them up at a later date I would give the stoneguard a miss and just whack a coat of primer and chassis black so you dont have to scrape stoneguard off to do repairs later.

If you are only using a dolly and hammer, stoneguard won't make a difference. If you are heating and welding then better not.

So cheers guys, it sounds like the original stone guard idea will be the go.

Brett got me thinking a bit, could etch / GMH black and then just stone guard the main parts of the panels and leave the other tighter areas free of stone guard.

But I know what will happen, I’ll go mental with the stone guard all over it.

Blacky these panels will just be what they be, they are going on and staying on. Any further panel work will mean paint and paint is a can of worms i don’t want to open.

So I’ll stick with the original plan and just get on with it.

All right so a bit of an update… after some serious booze benders and shitty shifts at work I finally got back into the shed

Front guards etch primed and stone guarded.
Happy enough with it so I’ll be moving on.

Fixed the guards in place and dummied up the grill to ensure it fits.

Good to see what the front will look like, now I’ll remove the grill to polish the stainless and GMH black the frame.
