Well something must be said for taking a little afternoon nap on the couch😀

There was a big knock at the door and it was the postie with Brett’s King Pin reamer… bloody beautiful piece of Ozzy engineering that one!

Was talking about the reamer to Clay the other day over a couple of beers and I mentioned I had finished with my rotisserie for now… couldn’t even finish the sentence before he shotgunned it for the next 12 months or 2 years haha

Your either quick or dead around Clay I tell ya!

Brett thanks for the reamer mate it’s really appreciated.
Actually ordered a STD (I think) king pin overhaul kit from eBay, Truepro brand.
So it should be an easy job for the reamer, just a bronze bush touch up with no need to go .010” oversize in the cast iron.

Hi Stephen,

I definitely need afternoon naps before working afternoon shift driving trains!

Yes Clay does have a rotisserie made of a couple of engine stands, it’s not bad but the one I have is certainly a lot easier to use.
Happy for him to make use of it as it will make his life easier on his panel van work.

Well it’s a stinking how NYE here in Adelaide, pretty much busting 40 degrees.
So just a a steady morning in the shed cleaning up the wagon with some scotchbrite and truck wash.
A few before/ midway/ after photos below
I’m planning the next move of getting the hood lining in, windscreen and rear side windows fitted, door rubbers on and then start to get the panels on and gapped.

But because the car is still covered in a lot of 60 year old crud I thought I’d better clean it now rather than doing it when the rubbers are fitted.

So a few hours on the body and it’s starting to clean up not too badly.

Next up will be to blow a bit of paint in the gaps where the door rubbers fit as there is a bit of bare metal there.
Can’t be gluing the rubbers to bare metal.

Have a happy New Years everybody!

what are you using to clean it with mate ? Looks like its cleaning up some of the surface rust as well ????
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Blacky the bulk of the surface rust is old baked on red dirt.
But just the maroon scotchbrite pads and truck wash in a bucket of water.
A touch of gentle elbow grease is benefiting to cleaning the crusty bits off.

i would think 400 is pretty harsh, but youve got your methodology…

are you running a couple of coats of clear and buffing later?

Is it 400? I just learnt something.
Yes I have thought myself that it seems aggressive, but I’d hate to be doing the job with much less.
It’s taking ages to get through it.

And for the record the green scotchbrites were not doing anything worth reporting.
Haven’t tried the grey fine scotchbrites as yet.

Not not painting in clear, just cleaning it as shown and will coat in in penetrol or wax or some type.

What is your technique?

For surface rust spots, Ballistol works well - I am going to do the roof of the wagon with it so will post some pics when the time comes.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Hey guys, happy Sunday.

Been a chilled week of just getting some shine on the roof with some cut and polish.

Also graffitied where you don’t see it before starting to install the old roof lining.

Hoping to get the windows fitted this week!

King pin kit arrived today…
No mention of it being .010” oversize in the advertising but guess what? Yep it’s oversize.

Face palm…. Payed a premium thinking it would be standard but nope.

Should have gone to rare spares haha.

Oh well it’s not worth my time chasing it up so I’ll just get on with the job at hand.
