That is crap , you would have thought they would have that sorted by now .....Brett027 wrote: Thu Nov 18, 2021 2:58 pm
Floor panel is 10mm away from sill lip so that will require a fix.
Project 2.

I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: Project 2.
Yeah same old, same old, Blacky. Ripples are right but pan is just not wide enough. Will probably just cut a slice of sheet with my trusty air shears and weld it in. I'm not too hot and bothered about floor stuff. Solid rust proof and non- lumpy is the go
Any reason why I can't mount on the rotisserie using front engine mount bolt holes? Keen to leave front clip on for engine gear box fit after mucking around with floors and underneath stuff.

Re: Project 2.
At last, back on the rotisserie!!!
I can hear my back celebrating better days. Lot's of welds to finish and patches and panels to do, but all with the comfort of my little seat.
Copped a few molten metal burns over the last week, so I'm looking forward to being over the welds and not under them.
One job to do is put in my new transmission hump. Not done this before, but assume that I just hack a hole out that is central and pop it on.

Re: Project 2.
I’m inclined to dummy the trans in if doing it for the first time but it means fitting everything up which is a pain now it’s back on the chicken roaster. It is just because I prefer to keep the hump as compact as possible, but then I haven’t used a store bought hump, just fabricated my own.

Well only two if you count the van. But I’ve done one in the ute in my head every bedtime since June.

Just in case you are thinking I've gone to sleep on the job. Chasing rust along the floor. Working around the drivers rear wheel well and sill area.

Good work Brett
Appreciate the sill pics.
You would be on a weekly tetanus booster with the amount of rust you have got there!!
Keep it up

Re: Project 2.
Thanks BD.
A progress snap. Tidying up a few unfinished welds and cleaning up the bottom of drivers A pillar this morning. Back to finish the curly short brace piece on the drivers side rear this arvo.
Looks a lot worse than it is without the floor patches. Waiting until I drill some holes on crossmember1 for the chassis kit and until I weld in the rear quarter bottoms before putting floor pieces on.
In case anyone gets excited looking at new steel butted up to rust, crossmember 1 is going to have the hump cut out and replaced with a new hump to match the larger tunnel. Waiting to get some steel and inspiration to finish it.

Re: Project 2.
Great Job Brett,
Rust is a pain but very rewarding when you see the repair results.
I would love to make one piece floor sections to fit these cars, there would be a huge market right now.
Anyone have a 200 tonne press and dies ???????
Greg

So many cars so little time!
Re: Project 2.
Thanks Greg. I'm not sure I could handle a full floor in one piece. What would suit me is a full set of floor sections that actually covered the whole floor and not just bits of it and ones that fitted the spaces a bit better. Having said that, I am grateful to have what we have.

I worked at Chrysler Tonsley Park press shop c1979 at the end of the Valiant run, pressing out bonnets and bumper bars. It was only a short holiday job between uni years, but left a lasting "impression". Yes indeedy, a pair of NOS floor pan panels would be handy.

Sending my 186 off to be rejuvenated. Will this sump cause me trouble with HR disc front and ball joint steering linkage setup?
