Re: Wilma FB project
Hi Sam. Cold over your way too I'm guessing. Brrrr.
No, not excited so much as just appreciating another step completed. To be honest I just expect it to start when its fuelled up. Then there will be lots of adjustments and checks and hopefully no dramas. Getting it through rego is the champaign moment for me.
I need to make a list of jobs still to do, as it will be easy to forget some. One such thing is 'mastic the front windscreen outer rubber' which for some reason I didn't do at the time.
Thanks Clay. Yeah I like my gauge. I can change the colour too. You can see block temp is 9°....And best of all you can set a warning buzzer for critical oil and water numbers. Need to read instructions to work out how to do that.

The temp goes from 0°- 120° and not 40-120 as in the text.

Re: Wilma FB project
Spent the morning installing a fuel filter under the floor at the pipe union and clearing a blocked fuel tank outlet pipe. Eventual success and used suction pump to suck fuel up to the pump just to be sure.
Half filled the float bowl and started her up. First time she had run since just after I got it home in April 2019.
Left the rocker cover off to check tappets and check oil flow, making a good sized mess on the floor. Oil pressure at idle is 28psi, so looks good on that front.
The hot box gasket leaks so manifolds will have to come off. Looked at it when I was getting flap thingy to work and thought it would be OK and better not to risk snapping the bolts. Well, that was mistake #1.
Mistake 2 was not being a bit more thorough checking the carburetor. It was a reco jobby that was with the motor and it got slightly singed in the 2019 fires. I changed the accelerator pump and needle and seat when I got it home, but did not check the float. Turns out it had split open in the heat, but I couldn't see it from the top. 5 mins in and it sank like a stone. Petrol everywhere. Swapped and now running sweet.
Timing light tomorrow, idling nicely so must be close. Not convinced that it has filled up with coolant, so will see if that can be sorted tomorrow too.

Re: Wilma FB project
Yeah the coolant. At least these cars have the top yank above the head so air pockets will float out after a couple of warm ups.
Lucky you didn't burn it down with the float failure.
Please share details of the filter installation. I looked at doing same but got put off when trying to select compatible fittings to do tube nuts and flared lines.

Re: Wilma FB project
Photo of filter. It's a WZ373. Suits a &*#@ I think. Unfortunately I couldn't plumb it in to pipes because of connections, so used rubber fuel hose instead. Hoping it won't suffer too much from stones. Nutsert used for bolt fastener.
There is still a bit of fine sediment in tank, so filter will have work to do. Good news is fuel gauge seems to be working accurately.

Re: Wilma FB project
Thanks Brett. Very tidy. I recall someone doing similar on here few years ago and thought they were able to use flared fittings but could have been wrong. You got a repro braided hose from Roger Hancock no doubt.

Re: Wilma FB project
I couldn't get the fittings I needed so went the rubber tube route. Simpler job and makes it easy to take off later.
I have the braided flex hose yes. Ebay purchase so don't know who made it.
Separate earth cable from battery to body just in case.
Pulled fuel sender unit this morning and made new gasket and Stagg'd it up- just in case.
Is there a difference between FC accelerator pedal and FB? I swapped my original for a better looking FC but now notice that even after adjusting the bolt thing near the manifold, pedal is much too close to floor. I haven't checked but doubt I'm getting WOT.

Re: Wilma FB project
Brett,
All Holden accelerator pedals including EK are the same.
Well, they have the same part number, that is.

Re: Wilma FB project
Thanks Rob- I was hoping you would come back to that one
. Looks like I'll have to play with geometry. It would only be a small discrepancy I am guessing.

Re: Wilma FB project
Grab the pedal, and gently-yet-purposely bend it forwards to adjust the floor clearance.
