Wilma FB project
Re: Wilma FB project
Sorry to back track but on your first page you re did your front clip / k frame, did you use new sheet metal for the sides? Mine has holes cut everywhere from previous owner and it’s a pain to recreate so many pieces with that ribbing
[*]2 year project currently making its 3rd term
Re: Wilma FB project
I cut bits out of Wilma's inner guards to match up around the battery tray. The drivers side inner (with the car number) I undid all the spot welds on both kframes and re-welded the original on to the donor kframe. Took a whole day I remember. I've kept all the bits that were left in case they are needed. Those big flat folds would be very hard to get right and they are different spacing in different places as well.

The speedo cable to clutch master cylinder clip looks a lot like the { character.

Re: Wilma FB project
A fair bit been going on for old Wilma (and even older Brett). Grill and parking lights on and all lights working. Bonnet (and bonnet bar) is on, but not yet adjusted. Side bolts and spacer finally on rear bumper. Drive shaft and new uni's and yolk installed. Exhaust pipe installed. I've attached a few photos of the exhaust for those of us who are working on these cars for the first time 'cause I couldn't find any on the forum to have a look at. Hopefully it's OK
.
Brakes bled and adjusted. The nice stainless master cylinder pipes I bought 12 months ago on evil B, both leaked and on inspection its obvious that the flaring tool used had left grooves in the flared parts: made new ones. Discovered Rares clutch hose had wrong sized end on the pipe mating socket. Quick trip to Fyshwick to pick up a nice new one (and a spare for ute to come).
Hand brake adjusted.
Clutch hydraulics bled.
Greased everything on suspension and universals.
More photos soon.

Re: Wilma FB project
Brett,
You might have to lengthen the right-angle bracket on the tailpipe hanger by about an inch to achieve the right clearance. For comparison's sake, here's the tailpipe hanger of my FC (camera aimed in the dark):
The tailpipe clamp is this amazing folded sheet metal arrangement which grips the rubber insulator on both sides. The tailpipe sits about an inch below the rear bumper, and there's about a hand's thickness between it and the boot pan behind the spare wheel well.

Re: Wilma FB project
Thanks Rob. They are pretty much the clearances I currently have. It's hard to tell from photos I guess.

No worries Clay. Been a couple of mistakes identified and a few deliberate choices made. it's great to have the guidance and goodwill of the forum along the way. This post has always been about and aimed at a first time FB/EK owner and the things that come up when you don't have the background or the option of going out the back and looking at another complete one. Exhaust mounting points is a good example (thanks Tim, Blacky
). These cars are very different to any others I have dealt with.

Thanks Sam and Dave. You two are not far behind.
Not much left to put on now. Horn, gear sellector rod thingys, aircleaner all need a paint and the bonnet bird and letters need a polish. Oh, and one wheel still to go on after clutch and gear sellector rods are sorted.
Having troubles with bleeding the clutch- had it right and then thought I could get it better. Not so far, as have lost all pedal now
. Nothing leaking, so its just perseverance....
No one told me that you can't fit the two trays under the radiator and front of engine after you have previously fitted the sway bar. Well now I know.
Engine tune up, coolant and heater hose fine tune, a bit of wiring and fuel line filter to do. I bought a digital combination oil pressure and water temp gauge that I'm going to mount under dash to the right of the handbrake, so that job to do too.
Bit more wet and dry on body and bonnet and then full on buff still to do as well.
Oh, and I still haven't sorted the striker plates and rear doors fit.

Or the bonnet letters 8 )
I never took my splash pans off the car actually. Brush painted on the car with KBS motor coater. Bumper iron inners have to be bolted up after fitment also.
I have trouble every time with the clutch. I find it usually comes good with use as long as you have some function.
You aren’t really going to paint the selector rods, are you? Very thorough indeed.

Of course
.
I'm having trouble with the bonnet sitting down properly at the hinges. I guess they might be a bit tight and may settle down. I have used all the adjustment available. I can push the corners down to level but they are not doing it without my help. Any thoughts?
