32nd FB-EK Holden Nationals 11th – 12th June 2022

The FB-EK Holden Car Club of South Australia Inc. are pleased to invite you to the 32nd FB & EK Holden Nationals in and around the township of Nuriootpa, South Australia on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend 11th & 12th June 2022.
Entry is open to all owners of FB – EK Holden's from 1960 to 1962
We will be centring the Nationals in the township of Nuriootpa, which is 82 km north east of Adelaide in the Barossa Valley.
We will kick off the weekend with Meet & Greet on Friday night at the Vine Inn, Nuriootpa.
This is proving to be popular event where you can catch up with friends from across the country.

Saturday morning will be the Sign In and collection of the goodie bags at nearby location.
we will have by a couple of options to cruise the valley.

Saturday and Sunday nights will be at the Vine Inn in Nuriootpa

That paddock in the second picture looks like I need to visit it I see an FB Station wagon that I could rabbit parts from for the next project

We stayed at Lyndoch on the way to the Renmark Nationals. Beautiful countryside and looking forward to going back. Also booked into Big 4 Neil. Woohoo.

We had a blast at our first nats this year. Kids and most importantly the Mrs enjoyed it so much that she has also booked at the Big 4 for next year. Yew!!

I was worried they would be bored shitless but the boss had a blast and when the Barossa was announced she twisted my arm to make next year happen. Can’t wait.

Our Nationals adventures usually start with a stay in the Barossa , we will need to think outside the square next year

if coming from west perhaps do the scenic route along the west side of the peninsula - Streaky Bay and along that coastline is stunning and a gazillion places to stay and play - or drive the $WD across and go through the wilderness of the lakes areas and Arkaroola etc which is also stunning but will punish the FB.

The route through port Lincoln although only adding 300km, really deserves a week to do it justice. Anyway it is chock full of Victorians now, not kidding.

You may already know this route Blacky, but a fairly direct detour after Port Augusta, either via Pichi Richi or Horrocks Pass, will take you down through the Southern Flinders Ranges, via some very pretty scenery and interesting towns. At Wilmington there is a toy museum, owned by a mate of a mate. He has at least a dozen old land rovers parked out front to look at as well. Then you can spend the night in a converted vintage truck (more comfortable than it sounds) at the North Star Hotel, Melrose, at the foot of Mount Remarkable.

Slight detour will take you through the old railway hub of Peterborough, where there is a railway museum. Then via Magnetic Hill, where your car appears to roll up hill due to the apparent magnetism of the hill (just ensure your imagination is set to full vividness, and your brakes aren’t binding).

This route brings you through the Clare Valley as well, with plenty of decent winerys to visit, mainly known for reisling, though they also try and compete with McLaren Vale in the Shiraz department. There is an interesting old garage worth checking out in the Main Street of Yacca as well.

We have been through some - but not all - of the peninsula , in fact I made a suggestion we have our Nationals at Streaky Bay but I doubt they could cater for that many people - perhaps a camping themed Nats with lots of camp ovens ??????? Dare to be different !!!

We have done the flinders Ranges years ago - in a 60 series not an FB , we stopped at Wilmington Toy Museum a couple of years back and checked out his Land Rovers, there are some really nice old buildings at Peterborough

The roads through the Flinders Ranges, and from Blinman to Arkaroola are perfectly manageable in an old Holden. From there you can go to Lyndhurst, north to Farina (stop at the bakery if it's open), then Marree, William Creek and Coober Pedy.

If you've got that far, then why not turn right, head up through Marla and Kulgera (take photo of car and give to the owners to put up in the "classics gallery") to Uluru and Kata-Tjuta. From there it's straight ahead to Leonora.
