Hi Brett,
Angles of photos aside seems your spring sits more horizontal and mine faces down a little more.
Trial a small piece of rubber packer between the spring and lid to give it some preload when shutting if that works then it’s the spring. If not the latch.

Thanks for you help. It might be bent I guess 'cause it can't be in the wrong way? I'll try a bit of packing- maybe a piece of clear tubing

Ute is out in the cold and dark due to influx of daughters but doesn’t look right Brett. Think it should be almost touching the lid when open. Memories of glove box lids springing open and constant mucking around with latches and locks come wafting from the back of my mind. Not to mention longnecks of stout making porter gaffes.

Some of the glovebox springs push the lid open nicely, though others seem to do bugger-all. The stainless glovebox pull-tabs are a great thing, provided you can find one without paying Earlybitz prices.

Has anyone made or purchased the remote door lock and button rods? Mine are too rusty to reuse, so failing being able to get a better 2nd hand set, I'm thinking I may have to make some....

Hi Tim that would be good: all of them are rusty. Back doors have a long rod that goes to lock button and a short (I think both back door shorts are same length) that goes to inside door handle. Front doors have a short ( might be a different length to back door shorts) that goes to inside door handle. All mine are rubbish. Clips are all Ok to reuse.

No Tim, dont need the threaded rods or pivots that run up to the black buttons. Just the rods in the cloth bags. Thank you

Many thanks Rob. I'm sure Tim is on to it, and it's good to have reserves. @#$% stupid that I wasn't on top of this issue before now. I'm at the point where I want to be able to latch the doors ready for buffing but suddenly find that the mechanisms are not up to scratch. A spreadsheet or whiteboard with a bit of project mgt would have been good. Appalling that I did project mgt for a living for many years...
Not a serious delay I hope and many, many other fiddly things I can finish in the meantime. Exhaust install, under floor fuel filter, headlining wrinkles, paint chip touch ups, a few wiring upgrades, brake bleeding, front springs in, joining motor and gearbox and on it goes.
