Oh come on now Brett.

Was a NOS speedo cable. Think my mechanick funked up the instal with a kink under the dash. Anyway easy fix with a spare inner.Image

So I thought. Theory now is try the matching inner and outer together. Changed the cable but still no speedo. Suspect it isn't engaging in the gearbox drive. The failed cable end looks ok.Image

Well done Clay on getting the ute registered, they always look neat with a plate hanging off them! With the speedo inner you could try this mob as I purchased an inner from them for $4 from memory. They have a lot of mixed / general stuff.

Now is a great time to use the two busted cable ends.

Stick one offcut into the speedo, and spin it up (gently) with a drill. If the speedo reads, then the problem is upstream.

Stick the other end into the gearbox, jack the car up on stands and (gently) run it in gear. If it doesn't spin too well, the square fitting in the speedo driven gear is probably rounded out. Pack it with matchsticks, and run the new cable. It it fixes the drama, hunt for a replacement driven gear assembly.

Cheers,

Thanks John.

Yer I have tested the speedo and all good Harv. I expected at least a flicker on the speedo with the cable replaced but nothing.

R series plates coming. I’ll be able to mount them correctly now I’ve been informed.
